Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

For those of you who are not aware my dad,Wade Bates, passed away suddenly a few months ago. Although he did not die from LLS, we are even more determined than ever to make it to the finish line of this race. He truly embraced his ability to help others and was a friend to all. We hope to make him proud by following in his footsteps.

Hailee, Christian (2 of my 3 children) and I are training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. We are completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

We decided to incorporate LLS into our run for Frank Mara's (Giants) son's girlfriend Kaitlin Kelly who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma a little more than a year ago. Since then Kaitlin was forced to endure several months of grueling chemotherapy, spending a week at a time receiving 24/7 treatments followed by a two week recovery period. While undergoing treatment, she managed to finish her final exams and junior year at Boston College on time with a 3.8 GPA, an incredible feat for any college student, let alone one who was undergoing chemo and suffering from cancer.

Kaitlin brought her strength and fortitude from the classroom to her battle against cancer, as she attacked her disease head on and never wavered in the face of adversity. Her determination paid off as she was declared cancer free and in remission on August 31 and was able to return to Boston College for her senior year. Because of Kaitlin’s inspiration we have formed “Kaitlin’s Krew” with the purpose of raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

On Saturday, June 25th, we will be running in the “RunaMuck Mud Race” at Sebago Beach in Harriman State Park. The race consists of team’s of four andwe will be joined by many of our Giants co workers. We will run up hills, tire obstacles, river crossings, walls, ropes and MUD. I will do my best not to embarass my children and the Giants.

Along with 20 or so co-workers from the New York Giants, we will be raising as much money as we can, in Kaitlin’s name, for the LLS. Anything and everything you can give will be greatly appreciated.

* by the way, yes, they did spell my name wrong......STANGEBY not STRANGEBY
