July 9th and Counting Down... The NYC Triathlon is only 16 days away and I am getting so excited! We have a mega-hard training this Saturday, July 11th...running, biking, and running some more and I have such butterflies in my stomach as I anticipate that first jump in the Hudson River on July 26th! Just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who is supporting me in my efforts as I fundraise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Your support and interest in this event means so much to me and I can't thank you all enough! I will have pictures after event day and a special thank you to each of you in the mail soon after. :) Much love always and many thanks to everyone! Meg June 1st and Counting Down... It's June 1st and I have 54 days until I jump into the mighty Hudson River, ride the West Side Highway and run in beautiful Central Park. Training is going great and I'm feeling a little stronger and more confident everyday. I'm meeting amazing people through my team, pushing myself beyond my limits in training , and growing more and more excited and nervous everyday as July 26th draws near. I've explored bike paths outside of Manhattan, done the 6 mile outer loop of Central Park countless times, swam endless laps while pulling other athletes and being pulled by other athletes through the pool, and I just experienced my first BRICK the other day. Yes, it was a bike and run training combined...exhausting. :) Needless to say, I am hooked and I'm slowly but surely investing in all the equipment that goes along with being a triathlete...wetsuits, heart monitors, running shoes and cycling shoes, triathlon shorts (you know...with the padding in the behingd- haha), bike maintenance kits and tire repair kits...you name it...I'm acquiring the necessary tools. Yep....I'm officially hooked. I wanted to take a quick moment to thank all of you who've donated to my cause...your support and generosity means the world to me as my team and I race to save lives. Thank you, thank you very much! Check back again soon and I'll try to be better with the updates! For now, enjoy life...it's such an adventure! Love, Meg "Do one thing a day that scares you." ~Chip Wilson This became on of my favorite quotes from lululemon's manifesto during my past year of working there and just like this quote, many things in my life have been shaped during my year there. Through lululemon, my NY family has taken shape with all my fellow yogis, singers, dancers, actors, and athletes who all share a passion for life. And it is through lululemon that I realized the importance of setting goals and then reaching for them with all your might. From day 1 with lulu, I was coached and supported in how to create 1 year, 5 year, and 10 year goals for my health, career and personal aspirations. From the get-go, a personal goal was to complete a triathlon by 2016! But...what was I waiting for, I asked myself this past December? Why not do it now? Why not Do one thing a day that scares me? and really go for it. I even had guests come into the store who read our goals and then would ask why I was choosing to wait so long. Then fate stepped in when Terri Ferrari, who is now my mentor, walked into the store and shared with me her inspirational story and gave me the courage I needed to take that first step and just go for it! So I am and I am doing it with 500+ teammates with the NY Team In Trainingan - organization that illustrates how essential it is for the strong to help the not so strong. What started as a flippant goal that I put on paper a year ago, has suddenly become so much more than a personal goal. On July 26th, I will swim, bike and run this Olympic Distance Triathlon for those who cannot, and I know every mile will symbolize another step on the road to a cure for blood cancers. The New York Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has a goal of raising over $4.5 million through Team In Training and my personal goal is to raise $2,600. Every dollar raised helps with research for a cure, it helps aid families currently living with the disease, it helps start support groups for those struggling, and it helps facilitate re-entry back to school for young cancer survivors. While I am not swimming, biking, and running for anyone in particular on July 26th, I will be dedicating my race to the estimated 52,910 people that will die from Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma this year and to the estimated 894,543 Americans currently living with these devastating diseases. I will cross that finish line because as Margaret Mead wisely said, SNever doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. For those of you who know me well, inspirational quotes seem to always hit home with me. I will finish this off with one of my favorites that always reminds me to live my life to the fullest and appreciate every moment: "Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath." ~Anonymous. I cannot begin to express to you my gratitude for even taking the time to read my story about what I"m doing for the fight against cancer. If you are able and willing to give, thank you from the bottom of my heart⬦please know how much it means to me and to the families you are helping. I am sending you my heartfelt thanks for your support and generosity! Much love from, Megan Racing to Save Lives Welcome to my Team In Training home page. I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support! |
