Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.... for the third year in a row!
Guys, I am back, and I'm training to participate in the Nautica New York City Triathlon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. On July 26, 2009, I will swim (in the Hudson for christssakes!), bike and run to raise funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
This year I have decided to up the ante. I figured... the economy is bad, and of course you all are totally bored with my tedious e-mails about how I am riding around Lake Tahoe, blah biddy blah blah. So... I'm taking it up... way up! This year, I will complete the Nautica New York City Triathlon in honor of three people who have either battled cancer and won, or whose lives have been claimed this year. Each of the three portions of my event will be completed in honor of a different person. Although I am proud to be doing this even in honor, or in memory, of these three people. I am also saddened that the number of people who I am participating in honor of has increased just in the last year.
The swim portion will be completed in honor of my mother, Lorna Morgan who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2003. This February we got the news that she has been cancer free for five years!
The run portion is dedicated in memory of James Joseph Murphy, who passed away in July of 2008 from multiple myeloma.
The bike portion will be dedicated in memory of Brian Feldman, who passed away this past February 2009 from kidney cancer. Although it is not a blood cancer, many of the treatments used in fighting kidney cancer are developed with the same funds.
The Leukemia Lymphoma Society raises funds for research to fight blood cancers and to support patients and their families who are affected by these horrible diseases. All of this is not be possible without your support.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
**UPDATE 4/12/09**
We've been training for about six weeks now, and its only getting harder. I'm up for the challenge though! We're swimming 1/4 of a mile this week, introducing hills into running soon and spinning away on our bikes, because spring is here! Fifteen weeks to go until the event!
xo,
Alaina
