Today, I conquered 20.6 miles, my longest run ever with this amazing group of friends. Now, it's time to taper off, and allow my body to recover from everything I have put it through in the last 2 months.
With race-day coming up in 3 weeks, it's time also to focus on the great cause that I have been associated with. I have heard so many stories, both of optimism and sadness, from friends and families of people who have had to deal with cancer. And at the same time, I have felt inspired by people who have themselves battled this brutal disease, beaten its ass, and devoted themselves to running for this cause.
If you'd like to help in this fight and support research against blood cancer, please make a donation on this page. Thank you.
Today, on a fantastic morning in New York City, I ran 25 kilometres, all over Central Park, and along the Hudson River.
At the Group Training Session, our head coach, and one of the most wonderful and knowledgeable running mates ever, spoke about how she had lost relatives to cancer, and how her 5-year old son had dreamt of beating cancer and how she inherently knew that he was anxious about the probability of having to go through it himself.
It served as a great reminder of why we run. Of course, there's glory in doing a marathon. But there's also a huge cause. We run so that we can have a cancer-free future, one where little kids don't have to spend days in anxiety. So, my friends, please help me fight this brutal disease by making a donation on this page. Your kindness will be greatly appreciated not just by me, but also those people whose lives these cures will save. Thank you.
This weekend, I ran with my besties along the Charles River in beautiful Boston. 13.5 miles on a scenic route full of bridges, followed by a sailing trip and then a 10-mile hike in the White Mountains on Sunday.
Needless to say, I had an amazing weekend, and am relishing every moment of training towards my first marathon.
For today's long run, we conquered Central Park, and its monstrous Harlem Hill. I'm upto 9.6 miles now, and am progressing as per my revised schedule. No photos today, sob sob, but here's one I took during my 6-mile run in the rain on Thursday morning.
Until now, I had been heavily focused on strengthening my glutes, since they were the root cause behind my IT band injury. This week, I started working on my core strength, and boy, it's tough! This week also brought an end to the NYC parks program that had allowed me to run in swimming pools for free throughout my recovery. Best alter-gravity treadmill ever.
Next weekend, I'm planning to do my longest run ever. Here's to moving forward! :-)
WELCOME TO MY TEAM IN TRAINING (TNT) HOME PAGE!
Hello friend. I am donning the purple jersey of Team in Training and running the New York City Marathon to raise some much-needed dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
It takes more than one person to make up a team and that’s why I’m asking you to donate to my fundraising page for TNT! By participating as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) TNT, I am raising funds to help find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immunotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. You may not know it, but every single donation helps save a life with breakthrough therapies such as these. Patients need these cures and they need your support. If you would like to know more about LLS and their work, I highly recommend this video.
I am fortunate to have never lost a close friend or family member to cancer, and I run to help make sure that I don't have to, either. I have known friends who have had relatives afflicted by it. I have seen their pain and anxiety, and wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help get us all closer to a world without blood cancers.
Thank you!
