Hey Everyone!
Welcome to my Team In Training home page! As many of you know, I'm running the ING NYC Marathon on November 3, 2013. (I'll wait for you to pick yourself up off the floor...)! I know...I can't believe I'm going to do this either!
Anyway, I'm part of a team that's on a mission to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
If you'd like to be a total rock star and make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training...well..I'd really appreciate it!
And now..I present you with a little "Ask Em Q&A":
Why are you running the NYC Marathon?
If I'm being honest, I decided to run the race for selfish reasons and you can read about that here. I needed a new personal goal to focus on that allowed me to channel some energy, time, and effort into something positive. Also, Marathon Sunday is one of my FAVORITE days in NYC! The energy is amazing and hitting the streets of MY city for 26.2 miles for my very first (and possibly last) marathon will be an awesome accomplishment!
Why are you running with Team in Training? Didn't you get guaranteed entry to the race via lottery?
Yes, I did get in via lottery (next time I’m playing Powerball). As far as TNT goes...aside from the fact that it's a kick-ass organization that is on a mission to cure cancer? It's a COMMUNITY and we all support each other. Running a marathon is no joke...but this team makes the process so much more enjoyable and inspiration is everywhere! Also, cancer sucks and while they didn't have specifically have it in the form of leukemia or lymphoma , there are several influential women in my life who have been through it and that I’ll be running in memory of or in celebration for Ann Marie Rossi, Sandy White (and her family) and my sister-in-law, Heather (read more about this decision here).
Why are you wearing high purple knee-socks?
They're compression stockings and I'm not sure they even work...but one of my running friends told me to buy them so I did. Also, I work out to justify the purchasing of overpriced accessories from Lululemon. Basically, I work out for the accessories.
Will you wear a hair bow during your run (as a throwback to you cheerleading days)? 100% yes. Absolutely. Most Definitely. A big obnoxious white bow. I’m still trying to figure out how I can incorporate glitter though.
Will I be able to cheer you on?
Yes and I hope you do! As previously mentioned, Marathon Sunday has always been one of my very favorite days as a New Yorker. The energy from the crowd is off the charts and keeps people moving. There's even an app to track each runner! So, if you're going to be out on the course - please let me know where you'll be so I can keep an eye out for you (and maybe bring Swedish Fish, bananas, Gatorade, and your camera…pretty please and thanks)!
How fast will you run?
I keep about a 10:20 p/mile pace…the race is 26.2 miles….you can just figure out my finish time on your own because math was never really my thing anyway.
Will you eat ALL the pizza when you're finished?
That is a ridiculous question because obviously the answer is YES. I'd also really love to try a cronut if someone can figure out how to make that happen (thanks in advance).
XOXO,
Em
