Team in Training group practice has started! Here are some of my fellow runners from our first Saturday run in Prospect Park.
MAY 19, 2012
Here is a shot from the Brooklyn Half Marathon. This was a really fun race, and I couldn't be happier with my time. I cut almost 16 minutes off my time from the Women's Fitness Half Marathon with a finishing time of 2:28. I've got a few other halfs are on tap for this fall, so we'll see if I can chop off even more time.
MAY 15, 2012
I broke $3,000 today for money raised for the cause--81% of my target amount! A big thanks to everyone who has made donations over the past few months. You guys rock!
Today official begins pre-season training for the 2012 ING Marathon. I am kicking off training with a brand new pair of running shoes, and I can't wait to meet the rest of the TNT crew.
On the race front, the last few weeks have been filled with records. Last month, I completed the More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women's Half Marathon. There is a not-so-lovely photo below of me looking exhausted toward the end of the race! That was my first half marathon, and I finished in a respectable time of 2:38. This particular race was a big milestone, since it was my first ever long distance race. Taking out 13.1 miles felt pretty great! It was really inspiring to race with some of NYC's best women runners--the winning time was a speedy 1:13. This coming weekend I am taking on the Brooklyn Half Marathon with a goal of annihilating my April time.
MARCH 5, 2012
This weekend was filled with progress on all fronts! Saturday's event was a huge success, and I would like to take a minute to thank everyone involved. With the help of No Pulp Music and friends, we brought in $1,650 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
This event was very close to my heart, and the turnout was truly amazing! It makes me very proud to be surrounded by such positive people, and I can’t wait to run the NYC 2012 Marathon in their honor. I couldn’t have asked for a better turnout to the show, but aside for the sheer number of people who came out to support, the vibe of the event was wonderful. The bands who played clearly brought the house down, but the entire crowd made the room buzz with positive energy.
A HUGE thank you to Michelle Fantus and Amy Mitten, my partners in No Pulp Music crime, for putting this event together with me. I would also like to thank Pistols 40 Paces, Night Fevers, Sylvana Joyce + The Moment, The Bottom Dollars, Emergency Service, and Dyalekt for donating their time and talent to support the cause. And, of course, I can't say thank you enough to everyone who came out to support. You guys are the best.
On the training front, Sunday was the famous Coogan's 5K in Washington Heights. They don't call it the Heights for nothing! Though the race was only 3.1 miles, I have to say it was by far the toughest course I have run to date. This is one of NYRR's hilliest trails, and we aren't talking little wimpy hills. Big hills...and lots of them! The run was a fun challenge--one I can't wait to repeat next year. Being the Shamrock and Blues run, there was live music every half mile or so. They had everything from a full marching band to a Beatles cover band--and everything in between. The music made the hills seem a little more doable, even though everyone was huffing and puffing at the top of every one. The winner of the 5K finished in 14 minutes. I did not; however, I cut 10 seconds off my per mile average. Considering the hill aspect of the course, I am pretty smitten with that result.

Next up is the More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women's Half Marathon on April 15!

FEBRUARY 5, 2012
Fellow runner and friend Anne Riley and I took on Central Park for the NYRR Gridiron 4 Mile Classic on SuperBowl Sunday. That's right, I was rocking Giants' Blue to cheer on our team. Apparently, the good vibes got sent their way. Way to go, GIANTS! This marked our second race of 2012, and so far we have been very lucky with our winter races and the lack of snow. Fingers crossed the real winter doesn't decide to show up anytime soon. This was a successful second race for me. I chopped almost a minute off my per mile average!
My other great friends Michelle and Brittany ran this race as well. This was Michelle's inaugural race, and we are all very happy to have her as the newest member of our NYC running clan!

Thanks so much to everyone who has donated to my page! I broke $1,000 last night and am officially a quarter of the way to my overall goal. Your support means so much to me, and the overwhelmingly positive response I have gotten is truly inspiring.
On the training front, things are going well. I have two shorter 4 mile races coming up in February--one of which is the Central Park Superbowl Sunday race where you better believe I'll be out in full Giants gear to cheer on our NYC boys before the game. I am currently working through a half marathon training program before the Fitness Magazine Women's Half in April, which will get me to a great mile marker for the later full marathon. After that April race, it is full steam ahead until the 2012 NYC Marathon!
I'd like to take a minute to thank Michelle Fantus. As some of you know, Michelle and I put together monthly music showcases at Arlene's Grocery as No Pulp Music. She is currently helping me organize a music fundraising event on Saturday, March 3 in support of Team in Training and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The show will be held at Tammany Hall in the lower east side from 6PM-11PM. The cover will be $10--all of which will be donated to Team in Training. There will be 5 amazing bands, so make sure to check back in a few weeks to read more about all the acts performing. A huge thanks to Michelle for making this happen with me!
Cheers,
Lindsay

FIRST RACE OF 2012: JOE KLEINERMAN 10K IN CENTRAL PARK
I kicked off the 2012 racing season this past Saturday with a 10K in Central Park. Signing up for a January race is a bit of a weather gamble, but we couldn't have asked for a better day. NYC was 45 degrees and sunny--not a snow flake on the ground. This race was exceptionally special because not only was it my first NYC race, but a hand full of my best girlfriends all decided to sign up--and you better believe we came out in full force ready to start our year of running off with some good vibes.
The running community in the Big Apple is a neat thing to experience. I caught the 4 train in Brooklyn and the further I went into uptown Manhattan the more runners piled into my car. It isn't hard to spot a racer in their "superhero" running gear, and even so early in the AM the train ride was exponentially more friendly than my normal morning commute. People waved and asked if you were running the race--a perfect start to the day. The express subway stop is a good 10+ blocks from the starting line, and the walk was a humorous one. Only on race days would you see a flood of brightly colored spandex briskly walking toward the park. It's true, one of my favorite things about running is the gear. For whatever reason, neon spandex makes you feel like you can conquer the world.
The energy at the starting line was contagious. It is so inspiring to look around at the thousands of other New Yorkers you are about to run with. The race itself went very smooth. I wasn't Speedy Gonzales by any means, but my running was steady. I finished the 6.2 miles with a respectable time and a goal in mind to blow my PR out of the water in my next race.
I feel very lucky to have such amazing friends supporting me. The ladies I ran with this weekend motivate me to be a stronger runner, and I can't wait to race more with them in the coming weeks. It feels pretty awesome to have a group of buds at the finish line to high five when you finish.
FUTURE HAPPENINGS
Running is addicting. You may still be sore from your last race, but you are already filling out the sign up application for new events. Yesterday, I took the plunge and signed up for the More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women's Half Marathon in April. I am really excited to run in an all womens event, and this race is known for being one of New York's best and most empowering events of the year. This is also the perfect milestone on my way to the November ING New York City Marathon 2012!
Hello Friends & Family,
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. Below you can check out my running blog and track my progress throughout the coming months of training for my first ever sports endurance event: ING New York City Marathon 2012. 26.2 miles here I come! I hope you enjoy the page and feel inspired like I do about this project.
This past year's ING New York City Marathon reignited my love for running and truly inspired me to take part in the 2012 race. I am thrilled to be a part of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training (TNT) and to have the opportunity to run for such a great cause. As a member of TNT, I am raising money to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I am improving the quality of my life by participating and, with your support, I can continue to help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures. Thanks again for visiting and make sure to check back for new updates and photos!
XOXO,
Lindsay
