common squirrel is running a marathon

Hello, Twitter Friends,
So, marathon running, yes? Yes, and I agree, it's a strange thing to do. But! A large part of the reason I've taken up this strange thing is to support the mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I run with their team, Team In Training, which fundraises to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
That's personally important to me, as Lymphoma killed a very good friend of mine.
In March I ran The New York City Half Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training, which raises funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I put an appeal out to my twitter followers to donate, if they liked. Honestly, knowing what I know about the internet, I didn't particularly expect much in return.
I was very wrong. You guys came up with $2133.60, torpedoing my goal of $1800. I cannot possibly thank you enough.
I ran the half in 2:17, by the by, which is no small thing, when you consider that at this time last year I made 'sedentary' look 'Richard Simmonsy.' I owe you guys a debt of gratitude for that, as well. Your generosity was a large part of what inspired me and kept my legs moving when I really wanted to stop.
And so, I became a crazy person who runs races, which I never in a million years expected to happen. I've spent the summer training, and in November I'll be running the full New York City Marathon, with TnT, in memory of my friend Ray. The day I run will be almost exactly a year since he lost his battle with lymphoma. I miss him a lot.
I know that most of the 40000ish of you who follow the antics of the squirrel have never met me. I know, as well, that times are really tight for money (hell, I'm unemployed). But I could not have been more pleasantly surprised and awed by the generosity shown by a group of people bound only by their enjoyment of an internet squirrel and their distaste for blood cancers.
If you can give, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. If you can't, thanks simply for reading, and following the squirrel. It means an enormous amount.
Much love,
-Dave

(Just a sample of what you might get)
Hi guys, thanks for stopping by!
In March I ran my first half marathon in his name, finishing in 2:17. I've decided to double down on both the physical exertion and the fundraising, and in November I'll be running the full New York City Marathon, in memory of my friend Ray. The day I run will be almost exactly a year since he passed. Ray was really great.
So far, you guys have helped me raise over 1700 dollars, which is awesome! To everyone who has given so far, thank you so much.
I have a fundraising goal of 2000 bucks by July 15th, which seems pretty doable, but in order to make that last 300 or so happen, I could use your help. As a bit of an incentive:
If you give any amount between now and the 15th, i'll text a weird photo* to you (or to the phone number of your choice). i promise that every photo i text will be completely original, one of a kind, and a little strange.**
So. Donating any amount gets one weird picture.
Donating 10 bucks gets 3.
25 dollars gets 10.
And donating more than that gets 10 pictures and a video.
As always, if you can give, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. If you can't, I understand, and my thanks simply for reading. It means an enormous amount.
-Dave
*weird, not gross.
**of course, if you'd rather i not send any weird pictures, but you still would like to donate, that is also perfectly acceptable.

PS: my job is keeping me on for a couple more weeks as part of this layoff, and I really have no reason to show up with anything like normal hair anymore. If I raise $1000 by Memorial Day (about a week from now), I'll go in on the 31st with a mohawk, and post pics to twitpic. Least I could do, I figure.

Marathon Update

Hi friends,
I seem to have become a long distance runner. Those of you who've known me for some time know that this is hilarious.
But! A large part of the reason I've become this strange thing is to support the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and aid in fundraising efforts to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
Lymphoma, you see, killed a very good friend of mine.
In March I ran my first half marathon in his name, finishing in 2:17, which is a pretty big deal for a guy whose previous encounters with exercise running were limited to the calories burned by caffeine jitters.
I've decided to double down on both the physical exertion and the fundraising.
In November I'll be running the full New York City Marathon, in memory of my friend Ray. The day I run will be almost exactly a year since he lost his battle with lymphoma. I miss him a lot.
So, I this is an appeal for your financial support. If you can give, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. If you can't, I understand, and my thanks simply for reading. It means an enormous amount.
