Running 26.2 Miles to Fight Cancer

Jan 03, 2014

Why Run?

This year I am looking forward to running the New York City Marathon in support of a cause. No runner's high can match the absolutely awesome feeling I get from making an impact and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society allows me to do just that.

LLS has already invested more than $600 million in leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma research, including the development of new treatments. They currenty underwrite more than 288 active grantees at 114 institutions. These funds have contributed directly to the survival rates increasing over the last few decades.

LLS gives direct support to those affected by these blood cancers, including support groups, educational programs, and financial aid. They give those diagonsed a peer to turn to with their First Connection program and will assist with costs of treatment with their Patient Financial Aid Program.

LLS thrives to meet top standards for not-for-profit organizations with over 74% of funds raised directly supporting their mission. Though LLS deemed my goal should be $2,000, I hope to surpass that with your help.

I ask that you please contribute to the cause. Whether you have a connection (unfortunately most of us do) or not, we can all get that awesome feeling of making an impact.

Thanks!

"Hi Joel, My broker died of cancer 3 years ago so cancer charities are very close to my heart. When a person suffers from cancer the whole family is affected in a deep and long lasting way so from my perspective every penny invested in finding a cure is worthwhile Kind regards, Sarah"

"My younger sister is a blood cancer survivor (Hodgkins Disease). She is now a healthy & happy New Yorker and turning 25 in 2 weeks! We were lucky enough to afford the best care possible but so many are not as fortunate. This money is much needed and I know it will be put to good use. Good luck and thank you for raising both money and awareness."
