Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
5.10.2009
A quick update for everyone - as you may or may not know by now, I was unable to run the NJ marathon last weekend. Unfortunately at my first 10k and last training race - the Scotland Run (image from Brightroom photography) - I somehow injured my foot and wound up with a severe stress fracture. Luckily...I'm planning on running the NYC half in August. So do not fear - your donations are still supporting me in my personal quest to - well - at this point just run the stupid race :) - and will be helping SO MANY people who are dealing with blood cancers. Even though I wasn't able to complete my event this season, I learned a lot about the good and the bad of dealing with cancer. Our honored teammates are ridiculously amazing. I hope I can remember how inspiring they've been next time I have something trying to keep me down (maybe like a broken foot). Until next time: GO TEAM!

Great run tonight: 4 miles pretty easy at a good pace. I'm actually starting to get into a habit of *gasp* running!

7.25 miles. Feeling good. Woooo! Thanks to all my donors - you guys have really been the late winter boost I've NEEDED to keep training. Seriously.

Well. Oh my goodness things have been busy! Hope everyone had a great holiday. Unfortunately, spending my holidays running all over Kingdom Come didn't help out with my training. However...I got really exciting news today...I've surpassed $1500 in fundraising!!!!! Luckily, seeing everyone so generously giving to those who are sick has given me a huge boost and I can't wait to catch up on my training! If you haven't given yet, duh, it's never too late!
Go ILLINI!!!

Hello, December! Lots of different scenery for my running - the beach, the gym in Newark, NJ, a SI park. I have to say, even in December, running outside is infinitely better than the treadmill. Ugh. Next Saturday will be my first Road Runners race! A 4-miler! Ah!

UPDATE! I've got my TNT line of jewelry up at www.kiki-g.com
Check it out - these are great Holiday gifts and the money goes to a great cause!!!
END UPDATE.
Quick lunchtime update! Wow, so far TNT is keeping us BUSY! Fundraising is off to a slow start, but I've been doing a lot of organizational stuff. Let's get that money coming in!!!
Training has been fun/cold. The Staten Island group is awesome and we had our first group run last weekend. A few highlights from the run were remembering the anniversary of a runner's boyfriend's mother who lost her battle with cancer, and the celebration of a runner's wife's 5 year anniversary! As he put it, "SHE'S CURED!!!". It's great to hear these stories (whether happy or sad) to remind us why we're running 4 miles in 25 degree weather at 830 AM on a Saturday. Seriously people, mother nature is not messing around. The week before that, Diana and I ran in a total downpour. Which actually was really awesome, but really messy and wet.
Tonight is TRIVIA (which I stink at) with the Manhattan kids, then more training tomorrow!
GO TEAM!

11.9.2008 (updated)
Yesterday was my first training run, and I met my mentor, Diana. She's pretty much the coolest person ever, and I'm totally excited to be running with her!
***Important!***
So the holidays are coming up and everyone has to get a gift for their mom/sister/significant other/cat/dog/etc. I've been making jewelry for about 10 years now, and I'm selling pieces for a small markup, donating all proceeds to LLS. Please check out the following link for photos, prices, etc. It's a great way to get a little holiday shopping out of the way and donate to a great cause at the same time!!!

Hello everyone! Well, this weekend marks our kick-off group training! Yikes! I've just kicked off my fundraising campaign, so let's get those donations rolling in! Please send this link to anyone you know...we can find a cure for cancer, but we need the funds first!

My Mission
I'm training to participate in the ROME MARATHON as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training! All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
