Welcome to my Team In Training home page. My name is Stephanie Gould and I am doing the Nike Women's Half Marathon DC 2014 in memory of my aunt, Lisa A. Cushing.
I have never been much of an athlete. Ask anyone in my family. Although, as a kid, I did play basketball for a bit, loved biking, and swimming. Over the years though, I have let my once active lifestyle fall by the wayside which is not okay by me. I have a personal goal of getting healthier and fit again. I also want to eradicate cancer once and for all.
On November 10, 2013, I lost one of the most influential women in my life to leukemia, specifically acute myeloid leukemia or AML. My aunt Lisa was one of the most special people I have ever known. She had a vivacious personality, an infectious laugh, a love of animals and the water, but most importantly, life. She would have loved to see cancer wiped out for good. She had said to me once that publicity for leukemia and lymphoma seemed almost non-existent, citing the other types of commercials on television and in the media for other forms of cancer. Personally, I am fighting for her. I am keeping her memory alive. I am going to reach my physical goals of doing this event. I just need a little help reaching the financial ones.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
