I have less than one month to meet my fundraising goal. Please help by donating anything you can or passing this along to any friends or family! Thanks!! Yes, I'm really doing a Triathlon... ...but more importantly, I'm raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I know I am probably not the first to send you a donation request, but I can definitely assure you I'm a better dancer, faster and funnier than those people, oh, and better looking. (And please note, if you dare not agree, I am accepting donations in exchange for comments at the bottom of this page.) As I mentioned, I am training to participate in the Nation's Triathlon taking place in D.C. For those of you who are unfamiliar with triathlon distances allow me to impress you; it is an Olympic distance length, which means a .9 mile swim, a 25 mile bike, all topped off with a breezy 6 mile run... just sayin. All of this is happening on September 13, the Year of our Lord two thousand and nine on behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. And not only am I training for the race but I am also raising $4,000 by September 2nd to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. So this gets to the "why". As some of you may or may not know, I was able to accompany Carey as she raced with Team in Training this past Spring in the Rome Marathon. Sure the food was great and she did run an amazing race (don't expect those kind of results from this guy), but what I didn't expect was to be as touched and inspired by how much this organization has accomplished. The stories of those affected by this disease really opened my eyes and forced me to ask myself "what would I do if I found myself in this situation or worse yet a friend or loved one?" and ultimately "why should I wait until then to do something?" While times may have become harder, our responsibility to do something great for those in need should not be diminished. I am more certain of this than I have ever been, sure this event is my own challenge, but it pales in comparison to the challenges facing the millions battling these blood cancers. Seriously, 53,000 people die each year because of these diseases. Something as simple as a small donation, could help the millions currently affected and those who have yet to find out. Again, if not now, when? Should you choose to donate, 75% of your money will be used for research, patient services and education (not to mention your donation is 100% tax deductible). Also, please remember to see if your company offers a matching gifts program as we need every little bit we can get. Again, thanks for your time, I know we're coming across less and less of it. Also expect to hear from me periodically, I'll be sure to update you with news, updates and possibly pictures of me crossing the finish line (all thanks to your support and my sweet moves, of course). Thanks! regan |
