Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

One individual that really made the "Team" experience for me with Team in Training was Larry Comroe. Larry was the "Honored Teammate" my first triathlon season with Team in Training. The least that can be said about him was that he was an amazing inspiration for our Team and helped me achieve my goal of not only completing my first Triathlon (a 1/2 Ironman) but also supported me on my quest to go out on my own training to eventually complete my first full Ironman that same year. Unfortunately, Larry's cancer came back and took him from us last Fall, further reinforcing our purpose for raising funds and awareness to finally stop cancers from claiming lives.

This season, I am once again coaching individuals to take on their goals of finishing a 1/2 or full marathon, and I am planning the following events to do in memory of Larry and for this team.

1) Hong Kong Marathon - Feb 5th (Let's call this a warm up for what's to come) :-)

Update - Finished the Marathon in 3:21:50 with a 9 minute negative split while taking lots of pictures. Also ran 22 miles on the Maclehose trail 3 days before the race.

2) Bull-Run 50 miler (Virginia - April 14th)

Update - Finished in 10:07, but ran the last 5.5 miles in about 45 minutes. Just enjoyed the day on the trails with good people and was not concerned about time. Felt great at the last aid station and when told by the person I was running the entire race with to just go ahead and do the last section without him, I had to see what I could do.

3) North Face Bear Mt. 50 miler (NY - May 5th)

Update - Finished in 11:44. Wow, this was a tougher course than I was expecting. The actual elevation gain/loss wasn't so bad. It was the rocks all over the course and because of the rain the week leading up to the race, mud and swampy patches made it difficult to get a good steady run in when the rocks were not as frequent. I did probably 40 miles of the race with my buddy Jim and 25 miles once our mutual friend Mark came in to pace him. Also met a great guy named Cal from Ottawa that has finished this race http://hardrock100.com/. So while a challenging 50, it was still fun. Since then, I took that week after to recover, except for running two NYRR races the next weekend. This past weekend I did an overnight run that took me to the start of the Brooklyn 1/2 marathon. Waiting in the corral somehow killed my legs and I felt terrible for this race. I think I got myself some IT Band problem and since it's now once again Taper, I have decided to cut my running down to zero or very minimal and work on strengthening my hips (Thanks Snipes for the info there) and rolling and stretching. 10 days to go before Old Dominion.

4) Old Dominion 100-miler (Virginia - June 2nd)

update: Finished in 23:09 achieving my goal of sub-24 hours and the Sterling Silver Buckle! In the process of writing the race report which I will post to my running blog (link is above).

5) Ironman US Championship (NYC - August 11th)

So it's a little more aggressive this season for racing for me, but it's all in memory of someone who would encourage me to do the impossible and really, helped me become who I am today.
