I did it! What an awesome weekend. I raised over $4,000 for the Lymphoma & Leukemia Society, which will be over $8,000 with my Bloomberg match. It was an amazing experience with amazing people. I have loved the last 6 months with my team.
I've got more to say and more pictures here at Jillie of All Trades. And now it's on to the NYC Triathlon with the Bloomberg team!
How did the race creep up on me like this? I go away to CA one week and it's June! Race day is THIS MONTH!
While I did run 3x out west, my training wasn't epic. And I've been really nervous about the bike. So today was a test. Could I get out there for the race distance (56 miles) and run, in this 90+ degree heat? We made it to Rockland Lake, past the Tappan Zee Bridge. It still sounds crazy to me.
YES!! And I think I have my nutrition plan all set.
I kept up with the group, had a great ride. Except for the end where I fell on the George Washington Bridge, bumped my elbow and it's all swollen now. Actually, it was more like crashing into someone at about 0.1 MPH. It was like a slow motion crash.
I'm so close to my goal: Only $500 away! I can't believe I'll be raising $3,900 for LLS. It's such a great feeling.
Have to include some pics. The good and the bad, and the sun issues I had (despite my heavy application of sunscreen).
Crunch time! I'm down to just about 1 month left. Scary. And I'm off to California for a week of relaxation. So I've been super diligent about my training this week.
We kicked it off last Saturday with a 2 hour ride on the computrainers at Tailwind. Yup, we did the actual Mont Tremblant course. Well, just 20 miles of it. Because it took me 2 hours to do 20 miles.
Did I think I'd make it this far? Maybe? It's been cold for too long this training season (as you can see below). The snow is on the way to the Monday night swim during a freak snow in March. Then long cool runs along the Hudson. Finally, spring is starting to show on the trees...
Only 2 little bike incidents, both of which involved being on sidewalks on the way home.
Two more months to go!
Thank you for visiting me 6 weeks into training! I started this with a solid base of no running, swimming or biking since the triathlon last summer. But so far:
6 1/2 hours Running (including 18 degree days!)
4 hours Swimming
12 hours Biking
It's been a tremendous experience so far. I'm amazed by where we've come as a team and what I've been able to do for the Lymphoma & Leukemia Society. To date I've raised nearly $2,000 which is enough to cover co-pays for 2 patients for an entire year.
We train as a group...at Tailwinds on the computrainers, at Asphalt Green for swimming, and across the GWB and up 9W for a bike ride.
Only more to come!
