A proud mentor & a good race!
Jul 24, 2011 by Christopher Archie
On July 16th, like a ba-jillion TNTers ran the Central Park 4M Conservancy Run. Humid, hot and a fantastic day to run. It was great to do a race of 5000 ppl while be surrounded by 200 purple T-shirt wearing TNT friends. GO TEAM!!!
One of the perks being a TNT mentor is getting the chance to meet some great people along the way and seeing them develop into better runners.
Michael is new to running and ran his first race today.
Cassandra ran to Central Park from home to support her fellow TNTers and cheer them on.
Why I run!

I haven’t shared why I originally joined TNT with a lot of people. So, here it goes…
Back in 2006, my mother was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. It was decided that her best option for survival was to have surgery and then chemotherapy. She underwent her first surgery in the fall of the same year and was put on the chemotherapy drug, Gleevec. Now Gleevec was originally designed as a drug to combat various types leukemia and was just recently discovered to inhibit the growth of my mother’s type of cancer. At the time, it was the only approved drug known to combat her cancer. Without it, her cancer would have quickly grown back and metastasized.
I joined TNT back in 2006 because I felt helpless and wanted to do more. TNT provided me with support and the knowledge that my family and I were not alone in our situation. I also wanted to find a way to positively distract my mother. She served as my muse to a healthier me and a healthier future for the entire family.
Now, I continue to do TNT as a way of saving THANKS!!! The funds raised by people like me go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma society (LLS). There, it’s used for patient care and funding private cancer research. The LLS was the largest contributor to fund the research that developed Gleevec. Without their financial support, Gleevec, the drug that saved my mothers life may have never seen the light of day.

Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
