Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
I'm training to participate in the 2010 Hamptons Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
**Let me know if you are donating in honor or in memory of someone. On race day I will carry each of these names with me.**
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
UPDATE - 7/8/10:
Training is going well so far! The NYC temps are brutal though! On Tuesday we did a 4 mile loop in Central Park in 90+ degree weather. I'm actually looking forward to Saturday's 7:00 am practice because it will be a little cooler!! FYI Runners are crazy :)
UPDATE - 8/4/10:
Before each practice we have a "mission moment." This moment reconnects the team to the reason we are running and raising money. The speaker for this moment was a woman who had been through lymphoma THREE times already. After her first battle she found Team in Training and started doing races. While training for one race she found out she had relapsed. She continued to train, through chemo and radiation, and completed the race. A few years later she relapsed again and went through the difficult process of having a stem cell transplant. While struggling through this painful procedure, which included an extended hospital stay, she continued to train on an exercise bike that was in her treatment room. Her message was clear - you can do anything you push yourself to do.
If she can do that through cancer, I can certainly push myself up the dreadful Cat Hill in Central Park a few more times!
UPDATE - 8/24/10:
On Sunday I raced in the Battle of Brooklyn 10 Miler, which took place in Prospect Park. I am happy to report that the race went very well (despite the rain!). I felt strong the entire race and was able to sprint across the finish line (my favorite part of any race). The TNT presence at the race was a huge help. Coaches and fellow TNT participants cheered me on along the race course. This was a great motivator - you can't let your coaches and teammates see you slacking!
I'd like to send out a special thank you to all the MWE people who have donated to my fundraising!
