Racing to Save Lives


Dearest family and friends,


I've gone and done it- committed to running the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's half marathon in September.


A little nervous? Sure am. In high school I couldn’t run a mile. In fact, I would fake stomach aches and asked my Phys Ed teacher to be excused. She'd pierce me with her squinty eyes of disbelief and send me on my way. The nurse, however, called me out. "You have to run this thing sometime, Kell.†I'm pretty sure the next time I visited her, the stomach ache was real.


As it turns out, the time is now. And 13.1 of them. Oh boy. A colleague said that running a marathon is mind over matter- and this is one race that truly matters.


What will get me through training and then the finish line is keeping in mind all of those brave individuals who have to plow through all trials that come with this illness.


I will be running in memory of my Aunt Casey who is remembered everyday for her strength, courage and eternal optimism during her battle. In addition to all those who have lost the battle with cancer and those who continue to fight the battle today.


Each donation helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. More than 823,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. I am hoping that my participation in Team In Training will help bring them hope and support.


With your donation, you can help me and the other runners reach our team goal of $30,800. I am responsible for raising $700 by July 15th and by race day a goal of $2,800. Here goes!
