Feb 21, 2012 by Damon Bodine

Thank you to everyone who has participated in my campaign so far. I can't believe we've raised over $2200 so far!!!!!!

There are a variety of fundraising events over the next few weeks that i'm involved in.

On March 9th i'll be in Buffalo for Notorious BIG tribute event. Also in Buffalo we have the Live For A Cure introduction party on March 11th. And finally today I was asked to speak at a Team In Training dinner event the night before the half-marathon on March 17th....

I'm in the process of editing my 3rd in the Live For A Cure series. This time I will spotlighting a new friend of mine and fellow survivor Kieran Holohan. He's such an amazing guy. I'm so excited to launch this video and can't wait for all of you guys to see it!

As we speak i'm packing my bags to catch a flight tonight. I'm meeting with my friend Chris Rodgers who's helping me work on my speech for the March 11th event.

Thats all for now guys. So much love to everyone who has gotten involved so far.

My training and other updates
Feb 10, 2012 by Damon Bodine

We are in week 10 of the official team in training program. I've been plugging away for almost 16 weeks total. I'm feeling so good everyday. There have been some minor aches and pains along the way but nothing that has derailed me from my mission. This week I worked on shooting interviews for my next video. We interviewed 3 people on Tuesday night at our group training session. I look forward to completing more interviews and assembling this video for release ideally on February 20th.

My fundraising is going very well. So far I have raised $1140 with more donations coming in everyday! Thank you all so much for your effort in donating. To make a donation or see a list of donors please visit http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/halfnyc12/damonbodine

This week I also began work on writing my speech for the March 11th benefit event in Buffalo. I'll be filming this speech and it will serve as a beginning of sorts for Live For A Cure. It will come exactly one week before the race. I'm so excited to kick this off!

I just wanted to check in with you guys. Thank you all so much for your support. It means the world to me :)

Workout Summary
Jan 26, 2012 by Damon Bodine

I work out frequently. 4 days a week running and one day cross training. It can be grueling sometimes but I need to put in a lot of effort to get ready for the race.

I’ve started documenting my workouts. Hopefully it can give you guys insight into what i’m doing.

Here are my notes from last nights run.

Tuesday January 24th

I got to Jack Rabbits (151 7th Ave) right at 6:45pm. Our group is considerably lighter than usual. There’s roughly 25 people at the training tonight. I get to connect to Meghan (campaign coordinator) for our race. I told her about my LA experience and briefly just chatted. This is the first time i’ve seen a lot of the people since before my LA trip. Mentally I’m so excited for the workout tonight. My last couple runs have been a bit subpar. JIm (Coach) gathers the group and we head out to prospect park. Its always nice to jog from Jack Rabbits to prospect. Its a nice warm up and you can get an idea of where you’re at physically going into the run.

After a brief chat with the group we go to the hill. For the workout we’ll run 1/4 mile up and 1/4 back down to the original spot and repeat. We are supposed to vary our speed going up the hill to make the workout compact. While going down the hill we are supposed to coast and recover our breath. I’m not sure how many miles we are doing this for but i’m amped. We start the race and I talk to one of the coaches about my recent runs. I told her I’d been struggling a bit over the last runs. She assured me I was fine. I started to talk to her about the research I’d just read about the potential cancer vaccine. She told me something that was very powerful and got me thinking. I said to her “I’m going to see a cure for all blood cancers in my lifetime” and she responded with “I hope so because I don’t know how many more marathons i’ve got in me” I started to think all of the people that are involved in trying to raise money and awareness for this cause. A half million people that have been involved in Team In Training races. This is a war that we need to win. For the past, the present, and the future.

I continued on with the training. We proceeded to do 4 miles consecutively up and down the hill. I chose not to really run with anyone for this practice. I was on a mission. During the last mile (2 trips up and down the hill) I really kicked it into another gear. Sometimes when i’m running I just lose myself in the moment. One of the coaches Syed really pushed me to go hard on the last quarter mile. He got beside me and we basically sprinted up the hill. Ha at one point I started to speak and he yelled out “no talking”. The whole moment was pretty surreal and Syed is so amazing for helping me out. We finished the race and proceeded back to Jack Rabbits. I got my stuff and was ready to go home.

After some debate I decided to attend the social activity at (I can’t remember the name of the place) on 7th Ave. I’m glad I did. Most of the team went there. The guy I was hanging out with Louis ended up getting one of those beer samplers. A few of the people were drinking beer. I opted for a coke. Good hip hop conversation with a few of the people. I got to explain my story to a few people and it was to chill out after a pretty grueling workout. Everyone there was really nice. I’m just so glad to be involved with such good people that are genuinely interested in helping others. After eating a chicken parm sub I decided it was time to breakout. I said my goodbyes to everyone and walked towards the G train. After going home and demolishing probably 2000 calories of food I documented my workout. Just another day in the life of half marathon training.

Someone come running with me this week???
