Evan's Race to Save Lives

Evan's Race to Save Lives
Nov 12, 2009 by Evan Namerow

Welcome to my Team in Training home page! I've decided to seize the opportunity to max out my wintertime endorphin highs by training for my first endurance sport event -- the NYC Half Marathon -- this coming spring.

I'll be running with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training, which raises funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in memory of my endearingly feisty and colorfully loyal grandmother, Claire Namerow, who received some of the earliest treatments for Hodgkin's lymphoma in the 1950s. She died in 1994 of complications from liver cancer, which was linked to her prior treatments for Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Since its inception in 1988, Team in Training has raised over $950 million to support blood cancer research and patient services. The enormous success of this program has helped make possible advances in blood cancer therapies and treatments that have prolonged and enhanced the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients.

Still, much more needs to be done. I would be very grateful if you could make a contribution to support my run and advance LLS's mission of finding blood cancer treatments. Whether you can donate $5 or $500, every dollar makes a difference. Your generosity will bring hope and support to the patients and families who are on the front lines of the battle against these blood cancers.

Thank you for helping me save lives -- one mile at a time!
