Dear family and friends,

I would like to encourage you to be part of this cause with me.

The importance you give to this message will make a difference not only for you, but for all the people who are making a difference for us already.

Believe me, there are many people making a great difference for me right now.

My aunt Luz Maria Escamilla, as many others, battled with cancer for more than a year. She just passed away on June 1st. 2008.

If you have experienced having someone close fighting any kind of disease, you will know that any lesson we could learn throughout our lives could hardly compare to the one of looking at a person's strength grasping for life. It is a great and constant struggle.

In an attempt to honor my aunt and people battling with cancer, I am training to participate in the Marine Corps Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this race on October 26th, 2008 in honor of my aunt, Luz Maria Escamilla. Also, in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers or any other type of cancer. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Each donation helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. More than 712,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. I am hoping that my participation in Team In Training will help bring them hope and support.
