Racing Again to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training fundraising page. After a two year absence from the running scene, I am back with a vengeance!

I first decided to come back as a way to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the passing of my Aunt Sandra. I tragically lost her 10 years ago one month after being diagnosed with Leukemia. Unfortunately, I now have another reason to fight for a cure. This past May, just days after I signed up to train for the Chicago Marathon this October, I lost my Cousin Nina to the same disease. Her death really hit home – Nina was only 30 years old and died just a couple of weeks after being diagnosed. Since her cancer was caught early, doctors were hopeful. But her body could not handle chemo and took her away just a day after treatment started.

With that, I embark on a journey. It’s been two years since I ran and two years since I was on a regular exercise routine. So even though I have 7 marathons under my belt, I am basically back at square one. Logging in the miles from now until October will be an arduous task but the pain will not compare to that of the loss of my family.

Help me keep this disease from taking more of my and your family members away, and while I log in the miles – DONATE. And maybe some day, I will be running a marathon to celebrate that this disease won’t kill anymore.
