hey everyone:
first, thanks for making it as far as this page, if you are anyone who is not related to me by blood.
as you can see, i have been talked into riding 100 miles in a single day (a LOT of it uphill), to raise $5000 to fight leukemia and lymphoma.
i'm going to do the hard part (you know, training to ride 100 miles in one day. up and down mountains.)
you are going to do the easy part--giving any amount of money you can to support the leukemia and lymphoma society. even $10 would mean the world to the people this money is going to help. (and i would be eternally grateful as well!)
faq's (updated!):
why are you doing this?
well, it sounded like fun (luckily it is turning out to actually be fun. and painful).
and more importantly, because so many important people in my life have been affected by cancer. this is a way to do something about it.
have you ever even ridden a bike?
sure! when i was 10...
(and now, a lot. but not enough).
do you even own a bike?
i do now! and a LOT of pretty expensive gear that is all apparently "necessary." you'll all be happy to know, however, that i still ride the same size bike as most 10-year-olds.
have you ever ridden a bike that far?
not even close. last week i was out of breath walking up the stairs out of the subway.
(last saturday i rode almost 50 miles though!)
have you been training for a long time?
not yet.
(still not really, but 6 weeks longer than when i first wrote this).
have you crashed/fallen over?
yup! starting in the bike store when i was buying the bike.
(and then every single time i got on the bike since then, with the exception of this past weekend (4/2)! i don't think there is any skin left on my knees or any part of me that isn't bruised).
did it hurt?
it was more embarrassing than anything. ok, yes, it hurt. (A LOT).
do you have a helmet?
yes, mom.
how much money do you need to raise?
$5000. but that's just the minimum--please help me raise even more!
(thank you to everyone who has donated so far!)
i can only give you $10
then give me $10!
i want to give you $100
then i want to give you a giant hug.
what's in it for me as a donor?
besides good karma? seriously?
did you start the obligatory blog so people can keep up with your training, ride, and fundraising?
of course! www.firstgears.blogspot.com
