I have a very personal reason for wanting to join Team in Training and raise funds for the fight against cancer. Their names are Jennifer & Mike. Jennifer is my younger sister and she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2008 at the age of 36. I watched Jennifer fight cancer with a grace, dignity and determination that is unlike anything I had ever seen. She never complained. She always assured us she was "fine", even when we knew she felt terrible. She's a fighter. She's a SURVIVOR!! And we are competing in our first half marathon together in January! I am honored to have the opportunity to share this experience with her and raise money for LLS. LLS resources were a very large part of Jennifer's journey, providing her with much needed information and an additional circle of support.

Yes, I'm running for LLS but I'm also running in honor of my husband, Mike. Mike is an esophageal cancer survivor. Diagnosed in October 2009, he received chemo and radiation and underwent a radical surgery in January 2010. He is cancer free. He is a SURVIVOR! I'm tired of cancer. I pray for a cure. I'm running for a cure. I'm running to save lives...one mile at a time.

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team. And that includes YOU! Your support is a vital part of our mission to raise funds to support those patients and families struggling with a blood cancer diagnosis. Although Jennifer and I are part of the team that will be training and participating in the half maration, you are an equally important part of our team! It is with your support that we will accomplish our mission - completing 13.1 miles together AND raising funds to benefit the LLS, while honoring all those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

4 miles this morning!!!! WITHOUT STOPPING!! I pleasantly surprise myself every week and it feels fantastic! Prepping for my first 10K on September 25.

Monday, September 5, 2011 - Labor Day

I RAN MY FIRST 5K!! My official time was 40:19.57!! I ran with Jennifer and Tammy and we are the unstoppable trio! The race was held at White Rock Lake in Dallas and it was our first cool morning with temps in the low 60's. Running alongside the lake with my sister and my friend will be a memory I will carry with me forever. We encouraged each other, we finished together, we celebrated together!

3 MILES THIS MORNING!!! I guess this whole training thing really does work! Each week brings new challenges but incredible new rewards. I'm so proud to be affiliated with LLS and Team In Training. Each week before our group run, we have a mission moment where a member of our team shares their "why"...why they choose to be a part of TNT. Each week I stand in awe of the amazing hearts of the people who are drawn to LLS & TNT. We ARE making a difference and YOU are a part of that. Thank you! Together we are helping blood cancer patients arouns the world.

Today I accomplished my first 2 mile run. It felt amazing! Running with my sister and our friend,Tammy, makes it even better. Not to mention the support of our ROCKSTAR TNT family. Next week...3 miles baby! Stay tuned.....
