Welcome friends and family to my Team In Training home page!
As some of you may know, I'm training to participate in the Oklahoma City Memorial Half Marathon, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. I am training with my good friend, Katie Walker (that's us in the picture above!) The event will take place on May 1st, and all of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
This will be my first time to participate in a half marathon, and I am thrilled to be a part of a great association like Team In Training. I am completing this event in honor of my honored heroes: Shea Adamson and Tom Merklin.
Shea was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in September 2005, when she was 8 months pregnant. Thankfully, Shea is now in remission, and has a healthy daughter, Avery Grace. Exactly four months after Shea was diagnosed, her father, Tom Merklin, was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). Luckily, CLL is slow progressing, and he continues to see his oncologist every few months to test his blood counts for any change.
Unfortunately, Shea and Tom are just two of the many people whose lives have changed drastically due to blood cancers. Before joining Team in Training, I wasn't much of an avid runner. When things get tough during training, just the thought of my honored heroes gives me the extra boost I need to continue.
I am very excited about this new challenge I have taken on! I would greatly appreciate if you could please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Don't forget, every little bit helps! Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to updating you all on my journey!
Thank you so much for your support!
