BACONS FOR A CAUSE...Racing to Save Lives!
Well a year later and Will and I are still at it...this time it's my turn to train and fundraise. Just like Will, I will be participating in two events within a month of each other...on the first one Will will be joining me at the San Antonio Half Marathon on November 14 (to celebrate our 8th anniversary) and my second event will be the Dallas White Rock FULL Marathon.
As most of you know Will and I choose to participate in these endurance event as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training because we believe it makes a difference...a difference in the lives of all individuals battling cancer. There are a couple individuals I would like to mention. They are my honored heros and they motivate me on a daily basis...even when I'm not training.
Allie (my niece) - diagnosed with "ALL" when she was 7 1/2 months old. She spent her toddler years receiving chemotherapy and taking trips to the doctor. A little miracle! She celebrated 15 years in remission last year (December 2009) as she crossed the finish line after running the final 6 mile leg of the relay event with Will and I. I am proud to say that she will be training and running the HALF marathon this year at White Rock.
Georgia Moore - diagnosed with "ALL" on her 10th birthday this past December. Georgia was Will's honored hero for his past two centuries. We are honored to be a part of her journey and help raise money to end cancer....of any type! Her family participates in several fundraising events and we always encourage our friends and families to take part. Please visit Georgia's blog at http://keepingeorgiaonyourmind.blogspot.com/
Griffin Yarbrough - diagnosed with Neuroblastoma in 2000. He lost his battle to "the bad guys" in 2005. His mother, Monique, has participated in Team in Training for over 2 years and completed 6 half marathons in his honor. I cannot begin to imagine how it feels to lose a child. Monique's strength and her family are amazing and I am blessed to have met her and become her friend. You can read more about Griffin at http://www.griffinoutpost.com/
