Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

August 19, 2008 update:
The half marathon (13.1 miles) isn't until January, but we're already training hard. On Saturday, we had a 6 mile run. It actually went very well. The group I'm in ran a nice, steady pace. It was refreshing!

August 23, 2008 update:
So, after a night of very little sleep, I managed to roll out of bed at 6:15 a.m. and head to White Rock Lake for our team run. It was very hot and sticky this morning, and I was thankful that I only had to do a 4 mile run!
Before we ran, a wonderful and inspiring woman spoke to us about running the Chicago marathon and the Alaska marathon. She started running with TNT after her husband was diagnosed with a blood cancer. Unfortunately, her husband lost his battle with cancer in April 2007. But she's still doing things in his memory to help LLS because she wants there to be more signs and shirts that say "In honor of..." instead of "In memory of..." She talked about her husband with a loving tone that contained hints of sorrow and longing. What an amazing and inspiring woman!

August 24, 2008 Update:
This morning I rolled out of bed at around 5:40 to get to White Rock Lake by 6:30. Team In Training volunteered to man the mile 1 and mile 13 water/Gatorade stop for a half-marathon race today. It was a lot of fun meeting Team members that aren't in my training group. One couple brought their 2 1/2 year old daughter with them, and she had a blast handing out water to the runners. Many participants went out of their way to be sure to get water from her! She was so excited to help! It made me really miss Shylah! She would have loved seeing so many people!
Despite the fact that he's not really a morning person, Steven volunteered to go with me and work the stop. At first, I think he thought it was just too early; but after he started to become more awake and alert, he really seemed to enjoy it. All of the participants were impressive--the first few finishers sped their way to the finish line, and the last few finishers completed the race despite the heat and humidity! They all deserve praise! All-in-all, a great morning and a great way to get the word out about TNT and LLS! |
