Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of my son, JC, who is currently battling leukemia. His little body goes through so much on a daily basis and is the source of inspiration for me to now put my body to the test and run 13.1 miles. Since JC has started his treatment, I have consented to every study presented to us. He is benefiting from those who were before him and now it's his turn to contribute to the recovery of those who will follow him. With this said, I feel it is my obligation to contribute to the research that is currently saving my sons life. Believe me, if I had the money I would just give it to research. No parent should ever experience the life being sucked out of you when a doctor tells you your baby has cancer. The truth is, I don't have the money but I refuse to sit on the sidelines and do nothing. I thank God everyday for all those who took action way before my son was even born. In the end, JC and all those who battle blood cancers are the real heroes. Please support us in crossing the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Nothing is too small and any little bit helps. Believe me, when you are on this end of it, you see a nickel as 5 cents closer to the dollar that just might change the world. Hope and faith are what we live on.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

04/14/09==I've finally started running. I have found out that running on a teadmill is a heck of a lot easier than running outside. I have a looooong way to go! That's ok though, I know I can do it! So far, I've managed 30 minutes of walk 5 minutes then run 5 minutes. That leaves me 12 miles to go....

04/27/09==Yesterday was the TNT Kickoff. Bo and I took JC to the event because he is the Honored Hero for our team. We met a lot of really great people and had a good time. JC enjoyed himself and told me it was a great party. Our training schedule started today and is written out until the day of the event. If you are interested in joining the team, it's not too late!

05/12/09==Training has been going really well. I am now able to run a complete 2 miles outside!! I've never gone more than 3, but that has been on a treadmill. Our team meets every Saturday at 6:30 AM to run. To my shock and surpirse, there are actually a lot of people up at that time running!!!

05/26/09==Team In Training is wonderful! I am learning so much. So far, every Saturday we have had a clinic to help us with our runnning and training. This past week was nutrition and hydration. I really learned a lot. I'm obviously still fundraising. Some of us are getting together and organizing a Silent Aution and a Gift Card Raffle. The aution will be held on July 13 @ Buckwilds in Frisco from 5-9. The gift card raffle will be held on June 20. Our goal is to have $500 in gift cards. You can buy one ticket for $5 or five tickets for $20. One lucky winner gets ALL the gift cards!

06/11/09--I am up to 4 miles now! I can hardly believe it. We are still getting things together for our silent auction. We have gotten some great things donated so far. We are a little behind on the raffle so we are having to push it back. Thanks to everyone who has given money or donated items or services to the auction!

07/05/09--I ran my first race yesterday. It was a 5k. I learned alot, like do not start at the front! Everyone starts out in a sprint and you are stuck....or get trampled! I have room for tons of improvement. I finished 5th in my age catagory and 105 overall...out of 176. I was glad I finished....it was so hot!!

10/20/09--I'm still working hard to get to my fundraising goal. This past weekend I ran almost 14 miles!! I'm still amazed that I did it! It's about 4 weeks until my event. For those of you who may not know, Bo and I will be getting married at the finish. This will be such a huge day for us...our first half marathon, raising money for LLS in JC's honor and getting married! Can't wait!!
