Racing to Save Lives



WE DID IT! You helped me surpass my goal for this event and I am so very thankful. This is it--my final week of training for my first ever endurance event and first time as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training (TNT). The race is Sun., Nov. 16 at the Rock n'Roll Half Marathon in San Antonio. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of my husband, Doug, an 8.5 year NHL survivor to date who is now in need of a marrow transplant --his best shot at a cure. He has been a TNT triathlete and an honored hero but did not feel he could race this year due to the cancer & treatments, so I am attempting to fill his big sneakers! He and the others who suffer with cancer are the real heroes, and I am thrilled to be a part of this program to help me cross the finish line for a cure!

Many of you know, I am not a runner, but hope to make my hubby proud. Honestly, if I can do it, I think anyone can. ; )

Our family also participated in the 10th Anniversary Light the Night Walk for the North Cities area in Texas. Our friends and family team, Walkers 4 Hope, raised over $11,500 this year which surpassed our team goal! Thanks so much to everyone who attended the Dinner in the Red, bought raffle tickets for the t-shirt quilt and made donations to our walk and my race this week. What an amazing community we live in and fantastic friends & family we have--we are truly blessed.

Running Log

Final Week

Day 1: Sun., Nov. 9, These last two weeks have been "recovery" weeks to get ready for race day. Today I ran 6 miles and felt great. My knees are sore and that worries me but I only explect them to hold out for one more week....then they can rest. ; )

Day 2: Tues, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, I will run my 3 mile training distance today and think about all the heroes--our troops, our veterans, our cancer friends and my hubby. Praying for peace and cures!

Day 3: Thurs., Nov. 13, set to run another 3 mile training distance today and that is the end of my trianing. Your prayers and support mean the world to me.

"Your friends and family can track you along your 13.1 or 26.2 mile journey by visiting our Live Results page. Your time will be recorded at the 5k, 10k, 20 mile mark and the finish line.

Complete results will be posted online after 7pm CT on race day."

Now even though its been years and I'm a long ways from home, serving in Nairobi, Kenya as a Reverend/Missionary for almost three years, I'm so there with your entire family and loving you both. Also, God told us "by his stripes, we are healed". I'm still believing God for His promise. Know that as you run, "the race is not given to the swift but he that endures until the end."
