The Nation's Triathlon-Washington DC-9.12.2010
so I signed up for an Olympic distance triathlon! that's a 1500 meter swim, a 24 mile bike, and a 6.2 mile run.
OK...OK...I know I can run 6 miles and I use to ride my bike to and from school, if you can drink coffee on a bike with the Lubbock wind blowing 100+ MPH surely I can ride one 25 miles, but a swim? The only thing I do in the water is float on a tube...Now you want me to to all of this at the same time?
Maybe I Can I Use a Snorkel?
A little less than a year ago I joined Team-In-Training, what started out as a goal to get in shape and run a marathon, truly has turned into something that has changed my life. It started when you all helped raise nearly $2,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I finishing my first marathon in December. Since then I have trained for two marathons, ran several half-marathons and even jumped over a fire pit at warrior dash! (yup my leg was on fire) I have even had the absolute pleasure of helping mentor a group of first time fundraisers and runners as they train for their first TNT event. I have been truly amazed and humbled by the impact people can have on the lives of those in need. Every little bit is greatly appreciated and needed.
What is Team in Training (TNT)?
TNT is the "fundraising arm" of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Myself and the rest of my teammates are raising money to help those people battling blood cancers. Because of your support, in 21 years (when TNT was started) - we have raised $1 billion dollars - 75% of which has gone directly towards research and patient services. Sadly though, we still have not found a cure and it's estimated that every 5 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every 10 someone loses their battle.
How Can You Help?
Join me in my second annual fundraising effort! I have committed to raising $3,500 and competing in my first triathlon but I am going to need your help! Donations are 100% tax deductable and go towards helping cancer patients and their families and also towards funding research to BTHO cancer! If you know of anyone (or yourself) who wants to do a corporate sponsorship - let me know!
Thank you all for your support! I am fortunate enough to not have someone close to me be affected, but every day I come into contact with people whose lives have been deeply impacted by blood cancers. So Don Armstrong, Emerson Espanet, Frank, Ken Kindle, and Mascot Dave... this is for you.
