-Week 10-Update

July 17

Well the good news is I am still running and enjoying every minute of it. The bad news (for me at least) is I won't be running my first Half Marathon in Maui.

Nope, because the minimum fundraisng threshold wasn't met I've had to down grade my goal. So, I be running locally down in San Antonio in November. It's a downer, but that gives me more time to train, right?

There are still a couple of bright sides to changing my goal; for one family and friends will be able to come out and watch the race and cheer me on. But, more importantly I am still in the fight! I am still able to continue raising funds; which means you still have time to donate to the fight to find a cure for blood cancer.

Help us wipe out Leukemia & Lymphoma.

Donate Today!

Thanks,

Deborah

-Week 9-Update

July 8

I'm back in stride after nearly two weeks off. I spent a week onboard my son's Navy ship cruising from Hawaii to San Diego. I had an opportunity to drive the USS Milius DDG a guided missile destroyer, shoot big guns and cook breakfast for the crew. Now that's what I call a great adventure.

Didn't get much running done on the ship though, treadmill and rolling seas do not mix for this landlubber. Although I did run up and down ladder wells all day long for seven days.

Thank you to everyone that has donated to the LLS goal so far. Please continue to encourage all those you know to donate as well. They need not know me to help others, so please ask your co-workers, church members, and neighbors to pitch in.

I will only be permitted to run the Marathon if the full goal is met, so even though "We've come a long way baby†we still have a long ways to go. So, if you have not donated yet, please do, every little bit counts.

Let's Just Do It!

-Week 8-Update

June 15

We are another step closer to the fundraising goal, but more importantly another step closer to finding a cure for Leukemia & Lymphoma.

Last week at work I held a fundraiser with the help of two of my co-workers Melinda (Kathryn) and Maria. We sold Elotes which is corn; we served it in the Mexican tradition of topping it with sour cream, mayonnaise, parmesan cheese, lime and chill sauce.

Let me tell ya’ll when I was first told about this I was not so sure it would taste very good. But, much to my dismay Elotes is fantastic. It tastes familiar but different. You will have to try it for yourself to understand.

We also sold Ice Cream Floats; Melinda donated the product for these.

So we were able to raise a total of $58.58 during the lunch hour here at work. Not bad at all!

As you can see we are 10% of the way to the goal. So let’s not lose focus. Please take a moment to donate whatever you can. NO amount is too small.

Thank you so much!

Deborah

-Week 6-Update

June 4

I almost got discouraged this week! It"s true I nearly gave up. I know it sounds terrible, it feels even worse to have to say it. I am no where close to making my goal and I have tapped every resource I can think of. Accept one; prayer!

But, what dragged me out of my 'funk' was what my mother said. She had been to my brother-in-law Edwin's military retirement ceremony. My mother, in telling about her trip mentioned that Edwin's brother Mark had been diagnosed with Lymphoma throughout his body and that he had fought back and won. Mark was in attendance at the ceremony living life to the fullest. I've met Mark years ago at my sister wedding and I know that his everlasting faith in God and the treatments made possible through our efforts yours, mine and my fellow team mates pulled him through.

So, I am back on track and have been completing 4.5 miles every other day. Going forward I will be dedicating my run to Mark along with our team"s honored heroes.

Won't you join us in this mission through prayer and donation? Please know that it is appreciated and greatly needed.

Thanks

Deborah

-Week 5-Update

May 27

Steady as she goes!!! I am becoming more comfortable in my stride and my breathing is coming along as well.

There are moments when I am running that I am so wrapped up in thought that I forget about the fatigue and find myself just gliding along.

One of the greatest things this training is teaching me is to not give up. There have been many times when I set a mileage goal and partially into the run I want to give up and walk, but I know I have to prevail and stay steady in my stride.

As much as I want to just stop and sit on the side walk just for a minute I keep in the back of my mind the Honored Heroes that my team is running. Those Honored Heroes have either fought the fight and won, are currently fighting or unfortunately lost the battle and we run on behalf of their memory for their families. Our Honored Heroes cannot just give up because they are tired of fighting their battle with cancer, so neither can I, more importantly neither can you.

We need your help! Please take a moment to donate. If you already have thank you so much. If you have not already donated please help find a cure. Donate Today!

Thank You,

Deborah

-Week 4-Update

May 20

WOW!! I knocked out 4miles everyday this week like nobody's business. My knees feel great and I am getting more fit as each day passes.

My goal for the actual marathon is 2hrs30minutes, which means I will need to run at an average of 10.3 min/mile. Currently I am running an 11.3 min/mile, so there is still some work to do and with the help from Team in Training I should be successful.

On Sunday I got to participate in a really cool fundraiser for the cause, by car hopping at the Sonic Drive-in. NO skates for me though, I was the food runner on foot and earned $61 in tips, all of which has been added to the current total. Whoohooo!!!

There is still a long way to go in the fundraising goal. I hope you have put some thought into helping out with a donation. I cannot do this one by myself and I am counting on you to help me. Please! And as always no amount is too small, just give. Besides it is tax deductable.

Thanks in advance and I will chat with you next week! Deborah

-Week 3-Update

May 13

Hey Y'all! Thank you so much for stopping by my fundraiser page! Going forward I will be making regular weekly updates so you know exactly how my training is going, okay.

So far, we are three weeks in and I feel GREAT! For the remainder of this week we will be on daily 2 miles runs. Then on Saturday BAM!!! We increase our regimen to 3 miles.

There was another donation to the fund this week. Hooorayyy!!!! I am also going to be depositing the donations from one of the fundraisers I have been doing at work. So look for that in the tally.

Please take a moment to consider pitching in. No amount is too small. Really I mean that. Do what ever you can.

Be sure to check back here for next weeks update!

Deborah :)

Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
