Here's me on my yellow bike that I was borrowing for the race! I now have this super great new bike!:
It rides like a dream and I'm trying to get out and ride as much as possible.
I've been unable to get out to team rides on Saturdays (I missed last weekend for Mother's Day at the flower shop and I'll miss this weekend in Chattenooga for the wedding.) but I'm trying to ride every day at least a good twenty miles.
I'm $350 away from my goal so please please help me get there!
Love,
Sarah
Hey everyone!
So I've done two successful weekend trainings where I have not fallen off my bike and injured myself terribly now! The stitches are out and my leg is healing. I still fall over from time to time but know how to catch myself now!
A few donations are starting to come in and my fundraising is rising little by little. I still need to raise a lot of money though! I've come up with several fundraising ideas to do at UD so hopefully those will pan out soon.
Whenever I ride I feel so greatful for knowing such a good group of people. TNT has truly changed my life and even though I am not the fastest runner or rider, I feel truly blessed to have discovered this group.
Keep thinking of me,
Sarah
Hey guys,
So today was the second time I was able to get out and ride with my TEAM! I was pretty excited but nervous as well because today was the first day I clipped my shoes into my pedals!
Coach Becky rode with me around the block a few times to practice before we started off on what was supposed to be 30 miles. I fell over once and skinned my knee, but was able to get back up and get the hang of clipping in and out of my pedals.
So we started off on the ride for the day in a little town south of Dallas. I started off having a really hard time getting my right foot to clip in but after a few minutes managed to do that. About 6 miles in to the ride we started to go up a hill and I was in the wrong gear and really struggling to try to ride up it. I was about half way up when I fell off my bike and onto the side of the road. This time, though, the fall was a little bit worse and I happened to land on a broken beer bottle that had been thrown out on the side of the road. I cut my leg pretty badly in two spots.
Bryan (my boyfriend for those of you who don't know) was nearby and stopped and so were two of the mentors for the TEAM, Esther and Brooke, and they both stopped to help me too. Coach Becky rode back down the hill to meet us and verified that I probably needed stitches.
So Bryan rode back and got the car so we could go to a clinic to get that taken care of. It was finally all said and done around 5:30 this evening. We went back to Bryan's house to drop him off and decided to take a quick ride around the block again to practice the pedals and gearing. I was hesitant to do it, but decided to anyways.
I know it sounds like cycling may not be the sport for me, but I am determined to stick this out and ride the race in June. I have an amazing supportive group of people around me who are even willing to give me the shirt off their back to tie around my leg to stop the bleeding.
So after 7 stitches, two skinned knees, one skinned elbow, and one tetanus shot, I am beaten and bruised but still determined to make it to the finish line on June 3rd.
Please help me get there by donating any amount you can to my fundraising.
Love,
Sarah
Hey Everyone,
After training for the San Diego Rock N Roll Half Marathon with Team in Training this past spring and summer, I got totally hooked on this organization!
I have met so many wonderful people with incredible stories and I feel like I am a part of a group in Dallas that really cares about me and how I am doing.
So here I am again, getting ready to train for a 100 mile cycle in Lake Tahoe! I'm so excited and a little nervous but know with the help and support of my team I will be able to do it!
I continue to train in honor of my grandmother, Billie Schlosser, who has been battling multiple myeloma for a few years now, I also train in memory of Nancy Chinn, mother of a good friend of mine, Nate Longfellow.
Mascot Dave Ekberg is also always in my thoughts as I train and his battle with leukemia has been a long a hard one. I only hope that through my efforts and the efforts of those around me there will one day be a cure for this horrible disease.
Check back often for my updates as I continue through this training season!
Love,
Sarah
Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
