Racing to Save Lives
Hi everyone! Welcome to my Team in Training fundraising page.
I've been involved with TNT for almost two years now, and I'm training for my third marathon, this time the Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon on June 6. Running miles and miles in training and competing in a 26.2 race might seem a little crazy, but I've definitely gotten hooked on distance running.
More importantly, I've also gotten hooked on TNT and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. All of us on TNT are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives, and never have I been around a group more dedicated to a cause. While I'm lucky enough to not have a personal connection to blood cancer, so many of my teammates do, and their stories continue to inspire me. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we're running to enable life-saving research and critical patient services.
our support would mean a lot to me and to the patients and families that the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society serve.
e sure to check back frequently; I'll update this page as my training and fundraising progress. Thanks for your support!
6.9 - Well, I did it! I finished the Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon in 4:33 this past Sunday. It was hot and the course was challenging, but nothing could diminish the feeling of accomplishment I felt when I crossed the finish line. I had a wonderful trip with my team, and I'm now taking a few days off from running. But I'm not to my fundraising goal yet, so no break from that! I'm getting very close, which is great - just a little bit more to go!
5.21 - I promised info on the raffle that I'm participating in, and here it is: You have a chance to win an iPad! That's right - the latest gotta-have gadget from Apple could be yours. There's also a pretty cool second prize - a Flip video camera. Chances are $10 each or 3 for $20. To enter the raffle, simply make a donation on this page for the amount of chances you'd like or you can send me a check made out to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and I'll send your tickets to you. If you have any questions, just shoot an email to mollymohare@gmail.com. The winner will be announced July 9.
5.16 - Only three weeks left! I did my 20-mile run last weekend, and it went great. Now I'm focused on getting good quality runs to keep my fitness level up. Also, check out the awesome video that Pete made!
5.5 - The Pittsburgh Half went great! I was aiming to finish in about 2 hours, and I crossed the finish line at about 2:03. I really liked the course (despite running across 5 bridges!), and even though it rained the entire race, it was a good experience. In other news, one month from today I will be in San Diego! I'm getting very excited. It's crunch time for fundraising! Watch for your chance to WIN in a super sweet raffle I'm participating in soon! Also, our team is hosting a bake sale from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 at Second Sole on Detroit Road in Rocky River. Come out and support us!
4.30 - Can you believe tomorrow is May?! Spring is flying by! Training continues to go well. I've been dealing with some blistering on my right foot, but nothing that I can't handle. This weekend I'm very excited to be running the Pittsburgh Half Marathon. It's my first half so I don't really know what to expect, but it fits into my training well and I have several friends running it to so it should be a fun time. I wil try to post some pictures next week!
4.19 - I had one of my best long runs ever this past weekend! I kept a fast (for me), consistent pace for 15 miles, 9.5 of them on my own. I am not usually good at being consistent, so that very cool! Today I watched a live stream of the Boston Marathon and followed updates on Twitter all day. I witnessed two amazing finishes in the men's and women's races, and watching got me pumped up for my own race day, which is just under seven weeks away.
4.5 - No group run this past weekend because of Easter, but I managed 13ish miles on my own despite unsesasonably warm temperatures and lots of wind. More good weather is in store this week, which makes training so much more enjoyable!
3.29 - Great 12-mile run this weekend with the team. We ran on the towpath, and when we started out the temperature was 21 degrees! I guess cold is better than blazing hot, but I'm definitely ready for warmer weather. Also, I firmed up the details for a fundraiser that I'll be having Wednesday, April 14 at Bier Markt/Bar Cento in Ohio City. If you're in the Cleveland area, hope to see you there!
3.24 - I read this great article on cancer the other day in the New York Times and thought I would share it. It really makes you think about how we view cancer and some of the issues that cancer patients face. As far as running goes, we had our first double-digit run (10 miles) this past weekend, which went great. Tonight I'm scheduled for 7 miles, which is a lot for me for a midweek run, but I'll give it my best shot!
3.14 - This weekend I ran both the 2-mile and 5-mile races of the St. Malachi Run in the Flats. Our training schedule called for 8 miles, so I wanted to do both races to get the miles in. Don't be fooled by the location - the course is not at all flat! I ran the 5-mile last year and knew that it's a tough course, but I managed to keep running the entire way through both races, even up several huge hills. Great way to kick off the St. Patrick's Day celebrations!
