Team Heather and Scott: TNT 2010

Team Heather and Scott: TNT 2010
Nov 16, 2009 by Scott Martin

In 2010 we will be participating in the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon.

We are training for the 13-mile half-marathon, which will take place on May 16, 2010.

Thanks to you, in the last six years we have been able to raise more than $31,000 to fight cancer.

We owe all of our fundraising success to the phenomenal support of you, our friends and family. The money you have contributed has gone directly to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

We have successfully completed four endurance events since 2005.

We've finished the 100-mile Seagull Century (2005), the 109-mile El Tour de Tucson (2006), the 102-mile America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride (2008), and most recently the Memphis In May Triathlon (2009).

The half-marathon is our "triple crown" event. We will have completed events of all three TNT types: century bicycle ride, triathlon, and marathon.

We remain committed to TNT in memory of loved ones and friends.

We fundraise, train and endure for: Heather's mother, who succumbed to Leukemia at age 22 when Heather was two years old; Scott's great uncle Billy; our friend's father Bob; our cycling teammate Eva.

And of course we stay involved in honor of the people that we've met that are fighting cancer now - people of all ages and walks of life.

Please help us meet our 2010 goal of $4,000 by May 1, 2009.

No contribution is too small, and 73% of the money we raise goes directly toward funding research and providing resources for cancer patients and their families.

You can find details about where the money goes here.

Thank youfor supporting our efforts.

Words fail when we try to describe how grateful we are for your continuing generosity. We are very lucky to have you in our lives.

Please check this page frequently to see our progress. Thanks for your support!

UPDATE: February 2010

Our training hit a snag in mid-December when Scott fell down the stairs and severely sprained his ankle. At the beginning of February he was finally able to walk without crutches, and he's started a slow return to training.

We're forging ahead! There's plenty of time between now and May to get ready (even if we have to stay inside for a few months because of snow snow snow!).

UPDATE:March 2010

The weather in Cleveland is finally breaking, and we've had several beautiful days to get out and train. Scott is ramping back up to some distance walking, and Heather is still going strong.

We're about halfway toward our fundraising goal, so we still need your help. Please use the donation links on this page to contribute to our goal.

UPDATE: April 2010

We have been putting on the miles in the last several weeks, enjoying what is hopefully the onset of spring here on the north coast. Scott's ankle is healing slowly, but the long walks seem to make it feel better the next day.

We're just shy of 2/3 of the way to our fundraising goal, so this is the final push for us to get there! If you haven't donated and would like to support this worthwhile cause, please do it now!
