Oct 10, 2012

Welcome,

This year, I am once again training and fundraising to support LLS and cancer research and will be running the Oil Creek 100 Ultra-marathon on October 13th! As a volunteer for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training, I am helping to raise $5,000 to help stop Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma and other cancers from taking more lives!

If you were with me last year, you know I ran this race and fell out at mile 84.5. Good but not good enough! I'm going back and this time, I have my 100 Mile Mindset on which I know works because I had it two years before and finished this race! I'm not going to try and run it again, I am going to run it again. It's that simple. There's no doubt...because cancer sucks!

Also, each year in the race, I carry a list of Honorees and it's that list which helps me get to the finish line. This year, I would like to start the list in honor of one of my friends and long time Honoree, Paula Massey. Paula has had cancer 4 times now...4 times...and she's in her 4th round of chemo for a form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. This round has 8 treatments with her last one coming right around race day. Unfortunately, this form of cancer is incureable. All they can do is treat it to get it to go into remission but doctor's say it will be back. That pretty much sucks but Paula has her 100 Mile Mindset on too! She's committed to getting better and helping me with this crazy race and the fundraising. She's determined and there's no doubt...because cancer sucks!

I'm also running for my 141 other Honorees, our loved ones from previous years events, including my mother, Nga Gnass survivor of breast cancer, my late Grandpa Morgan victim of a brain tumor, my Uncle Jack survivor of colon cancer, my friend Karen Landis survivor of breast cancer, and my late friend Karen Hylan victim of a brain tumor. There is also the sister of my good friend Mary Kern, Pat Schaefer who passed away at the tender age of 20 from Lymphoma and Al Manke III, nephew of my ex-wife Martha, who thankfully is a survivor of Hodgkins Lymphoma...and so many more!

Paula and all of our Honorees are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! If you have a friend or relative that you would like me to run for in their honor, I would be proud to do so. Please send me their name and their story for they are my inspiration to get through the long miles!

I've already started training and have already run 3 marathons this year to get ready for Oil Creek. Soon, I will be running up to 90 miles per week! My goal for completing the Oil Creek 100 is 24 hours. I've chosen a large fundraising goal, $5,000, and a difficult race to run because all of us have someone in our lives touched by cancer. The need to help is great. Please make a donation to help advance the Society's mission to find a cure.

You can use this website to donate online quickly and securely. You will receive a confirmation by email of your donation.

On behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and all of our Honorees, thank you very much. I appreciate your generosity!

Sincerely,

Ernie

P.S. I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support
