LONG BRANCH 2013 HERE WE COME!!!
Welcome to my 2013 Team In Training home page.
For the fifth straight year, I am training to participate in the Long Branch, New Jersey 1/2 Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training (TNT). The race is on May 5th, 2013, and like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.
I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, most notably my Brother-in-Law Tim Drost. Seeing how much of a toll Leukemia has taken on him and our family, my wife Carolynn and I joined TNT in 2008 to try to raise funds and increase awareness for these deadly diseases. I am also running in honor of my courageous friend Meghan Gambichler, who has battled intense chemotherapy to treat T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, and had to endure multple hip and knee replacement surgeries as a result of the powerful treatments.
Once again, my wife Carolynn O'Brien and I are part of a group of over 20 runners (Team NYSC), in hopes of multiplying the funds and increase the awareness for these diseases. Last year, Team NYSC, which was comprised of 19 participants raised almost $48,000!
ABOUT LLS/TNT
An estimated 1 million people in the United States are living
with, or are in remission from, leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin
lymphoma or myeloma. Approximately every four minutes, someone new is
diagnosed with blood cancer. Approximately every 10 minutes, someone dies. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children, adolescents and
young adults under the age of 20. Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers
and incidence increases with age.
Only The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training (TNT) has
trained over a half a million runners, walkers, triathletes, cyclists and hikers AND
raised over $1.5 billion to fund lifesaving cancer research. As a nonprofit, TNT relies on the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations. Seventy-eight percent of the total expenses go to supporting cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services. Each donation helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
On behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Meghan and Tim, thank you very much for your support. I greatly appreciate your generosity.
P.S. I would appreciate it if you would forward this page to as many people as you can to encourage them to donate as well. Thanks again.
