My Inspiration

5/21/11: I want to show Isabella that it’s possible to change bad habits, to make a big shift and become healthier and more fit. And I want to inspire her by showing her, rather than telling, that we can all make a difference not just in our own lives, but in the lives of other people. Isabella never got to meet her paternal grandmother, because Margaret died right before my husband and I went on our first date ... of lymphoma.
So ... I'm inspired! Read more about my first week of training here.
UPDATE! 8/19:Read my latest training post here ... I can't believe I'm still at it!
An excerpt:
As you may know, I’m training for this run through Team In Training (TNT), which raises funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Since its inception, TNT has raised nearly $600 million for research and patient aid, and I am really proud to be a part of it. This week, some really exciting news just came out about a MAJOR breakthrough -- they are calling it the “Holy Grail” of cancer treatments.
From an article in Medical News Today: “In a small trial of advanced chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients, genetically modified versions of their own T cells behaved like ‘serial killers’ and hunted down and obliterated tumors, resulting in sustained remissions of up to a year. The breakthrough gene therapy treatment has been 20 years in the making, and provides a roadmap for other cancers.”
... and what is super cool is this little blurb at the bottom of the article: "Funds from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy, founded by Penn graduates Barbara and Edward Netter, helped pay for the study."
I’m so excited to be raising money and supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society -- and news like that shows me that the money I’m raising DIRECTLY helps in the search for a cure.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
UPDATE! 9/19: I wrote about 13+ "real" women who inspire me.

Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in the Nike Women's Half Marathon (as is 13.1 miles ... YIKES!!) as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
