I know that with the Baby Huey's Tuesday's we will have made our goal!! Now anything extra goes straight to cancer research!!! I can't be happier to support such a great organization and cause. Drake has been blessed with a chance to enjoy his childhood and life! Drake had a great check up last Thursday and his counts are holding strong. Now we are coping with another week of steroids and today his appetite is picking up and so is his mood swings. One minute I hate the world and the next minute I love you mom!! We can't complain as we would rather deal with a few weeks of steroids than nothing at all. We have been so fortunate for a chance to cure Drake's cancer and will forever be grateful to those who have made that happen. That includes each and everyone who has donated to our team.
THANKS so Much FOR ALL the SUPPORT!!! God Bless.
THE HEGYS
We have been rocking the Baby Huey's fundraiser on Tuesday night and March was a success. They are having the next 2 Tuesday's still in honor of Drake, so if you missed it in March go now!! Lunch or Dinner!!
Overall, as you can see I have continued to reach my goal and we are excited to share Drake's story to inspire others to help spread the word that Leukemia is still in need for a cure. There is no guarantee that Drake will be cancer free and typing that sentence was harder to do than giving birth to him but I have trust in our doctors and researchers that his chance of living a happy healthy life is very close to 100% in our eyes. His ultimate prognosis is around 80% I believe which is up from 50% at the beginning. So, that is why it is very important to continue to support all cancer organizations. No matter which one is close to your heart I encourage everyone to give back.
Thanks to everyone that has supported our family and I will be proud to honor everyone's giving during my run in 4 weeks. Ahhh.
wow another month has gone by and Drake is back for another monthly chemo/clinic visit this Thursday at Children's. We have been doing well since the last visit. Labs last week were holding strong with an ANC at 1,100. This weekend Drake came down with a bug, he woke up Saturday morning around 3 and started throwing up, that didn't stop until around 11:30. I was going to take him in for fluids but after a nap he started perking up. One more round around 3 and that was the end. He did run a low grade fever around 100.1 at most Saturday night but we stayed fever free and away from the ER. Gage also joined Drake with a couple rounds himself too. Long weekend but glad everyone is feeling better.
I had Friday off, so I was able to sneek my long run in then before the snow and zero degree temps Saturday. I ended up going to the Lake in Omaha, started the run off with my calf instantly in pain. I was suppose to run 9 but with the calf pain I backed it off to 7 and will hopefully get back to the schedule next week. Plus it did start sleeting on me.
Our fundraising keeps coming in, sorry I have some checks at home need to post on here so everyone can watch the number rise!!! I completed the Yonkers community days sales and had luck with that as well. Thanks again to everyone!!!
This month a local restaurant in Fremont will be donating a percentage of their sales to TNT, every Tuesday in March we will receive the percentage!!! So, go eat at Baby Huey's on Bell Street!!!!
Stay warm and heres to spring soon!!!
The Hegy family is going strong. Sorry didn't post last week, I tried and it didn't like me. The past 2 weeks have been good. I have managed to conquer the long runs and did my first run at the Lake yesterday morning. It is just so overwhelming to see so many people doing this for Drake. I knew things would get emotional along this journey but last night it snuck up on me. As some may know a good friend of mine for OT school recently got married in Mexico. Her and her husband have decided instead of wedding gifts they are raising money for TNT in honor of Drake. I was at their wedding reception last night and they made the announcement that the dollar dance was going to TNT in honor of Drake. I lost it!! I felt that overwhelming support and power that my son is doing great things. I can't tell this without tearing up again. Ugh. Cancer what it does to not only the child but to the family. I could not have gone through this journey without Josh. He has been so great and our relationship I know will forever be strong because of this journey we have endured. I love him and my boys more than I can explain. A mother's love is something your can't describe most of the time. I am so honored to allow for Drake to inspire so many. I honestly say, when people ask what can I do to help, I always say just ask how he is doing and pray for him. Knowing that others are thinking about him through his journey is more than money can buy. I know we have been asking for many of you to give and I am so excited to be half way to my goal. I challenge anyone who can donate $20 this week to see where that number can go!!! Let's do this for Drake and all those who have lost, won and are still fighting their cancer battles. THANK YOU!!!!!
Hello to all our friends and family;
Things are going strong here at the Hegy House. Drake had a great week last week and continues to make us so proud at the doctor. He had a spinal tap on Thursday and his montly chemo. He did great once again and this week he decided to surprise me by having his port de-accessed all by himself. He usually sits on my lap and wants to me to hold his hand but not today. He went in all by himself and did AWESOME.
Yesterday, I tackled my 7 mile run outside. When I left the house it was just starting to flurry and by the time I was about 1 mile in it started snowing. It was a very pretty run and thank goodness there wasn't much wind it wasn't too bad. Once the sun started to set it did start to get cold but I made it home and can mark that run in the history a books.
Our fundrasing continues to go great. Drake's article was in the Fremont, Omaha, and Norfolk paper. We are so proud of him and think he deserves the world. I am over half way to my goal and continue to get there with the amazing support. I would love to see us hit $3,000 by the end of the week!! Any little bit helps!! Thanks for reading and heres to another week.
