Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to our Team In Training home page.
We have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, we are participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, we will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. We'll improving the quality of our lives by participating and with your support, we can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
My name is Tyler Kopietz, and I am a 22 year old, Exercise Science Pre-Physical Therapy major at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. When I was 6 years old, my older sister Courtni, who was 7 at the time, was diagnosed with Leukemia. At this point in time, I was unaware of what that meant. All I knew was that we spent A LOT of time in the hospital, my sister lost all of her hair, had crazy food cravings, and could read faster than anyone I knew. My family had a fantastic support system, which made this process much easier to go through. After awhile, the hospital setting began to feel "normal" to me. It was just another daily routine for my family. As time passed, and all of the chemotherapy, doctor visits, and scary encounters ended, it was as if a ton of bricks was lifted off of my family. We could finally breathe normally again. Courtni is now a 16+ year cancer survivor and is in great health. Many other family members of mine have been involved in Team In Traning before, and I felt it was now my turn to get involved. I am not only running this half-marathon in honor of my sister beating Leukemia, but to raise money to support research for cures.
Hi everyone! My name is Lauren Singleton, 23 years old, a Political Science major at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Up until the day I met Tyler, I haven't directly known anyone who has had to deal with cancer. After listening to the stories about his sister Courtni, I knew I wanted to get more involved. Courtni has not only been an inspiration to me but to everyone else around her. You learn the true difficulties of cancer when it comes knocking on your front door. There is no way to run from this disease, when it comes knocking… it's there. You learn the true meaning of the word "team." Without the help of loved ones everyone would be lost. Although Tyler and I will be bringing awareness to the front lines, we ask that you partake in our team efforts. "There is no I in team." With your help it'll help every individual who has been affected by cancer take that extra inch or mile they are looking for.
Our Mission:
1. To raise awareness about cancer
2. To raise $5,000!!!!
3. To make it through our first half marathon
4. To celebrate the team effort everyone gave throughout our adventure
#TeamNeverGiveUp #WeWon'tBeDefeated
Thank you,
Tyler Kopietz & Lauren Singleton
