Behind the scenes HEROS!!!
Feb 27, 2012 by Kristin Blay

Would could resist this group of motley princesses? I ran the Disney World Princess Half Marathon on Sunday morning as a training run for and right before i fell asleep I get this picture from allen with a good Luck. Yes that is my 6th grader as a willing participate in the princess picture knowing that Allen was posting it on Facebook to try to help my fundraising out. I could NEVER do any of this with out these 6 amazing people supoorting. Allen has to take on a lot and all alone! He never even seems to mind and is happy to support me. As much as I train - they have to understand that I will not make every soccer game and that i am gone during dinner to run and I will be gone many hours doing fundraising. Mostly they totally accept this and are even proud when they hear i finished a long run and might have run faster then I have in the past. When they hear how much money I have raised to help prople like Aunt Cherie then they might be a little less sad that I missed a dinner. Many times they have suprised me on a long run and come out on the course to cheer me on. They also have to put up with a my moans for the aches and pains of training as well as the stress of how will I meet the next fundraising goal! it i not always pretty ;-) One of the main reasons i do this is to show my 5 incrediable kids that ONE person CAN make a difference in someones life- and telling them is not good enough I Have to show them that it can be true. I mean how can I not help stop this terrible disease- it is number one among children and that is just not something I am willing to live with. So Allen, Jackson, Elijah, Jonah, Ansley and Laney Grace you are all my HEROs that help me make it across the finish line!!

Who really needs a toe nail?
Feb 16, 2012 by Kristin Blay

Well only three weeks into this season, and i have lost my big toe nail completely!! It is not really from this season of running. It is from the SF nike's women's marathon I did in Oct- there was a lot of brusing on the toe and it just decided to give up. However, it had a last little bit left to come off complettely and boy did that hurt!! It really is not going to be fun running with a very sensitive nail bed I am sure. My toe is not going to look very pretty for a VERY LONG time- and I live in FL where it is flip flop weather 9 months out of the year! I might add here that I feel my toes are one of my best features and that i love to get pedis and have painted toes 365 days a year, so this really has been a difficult rite of passage for me. That being said - it did make me realize - it is just a toe nail! My sister lost all of her hair, spent days and days throwing up , did not have a taste for food for months and so many other things for the entire 6 months they pumped those horrible but LIFE SAVING drugs into her body. Chemo really is a terrible thing to go through or watch a loved one suffer through but it SAVED her life! Those drugs are there for her because of the research that LLS has done with the money raised by athletes for Team in Training. So many, many miles I will run and even lose a toe nail or two for the chance to help save another life. Even if it means living with a toe nail that looks like this for the rest of my life:

Toe nails really are for Sissies Right!!!

HOPE!!
Jan 24, 2012 by Kristin Blay

This neckalce says it all! I am training to run the San Diego Rock and Roll withTeam in Training on June 3, 2012. The main reason for my running goes right back to running to find a cure cancer. It is because of the reasearch that LLS does that my sister, Cherie, is still with us today. She survived Lympomia and got to help welcome her first grandchild 3 months ago.

When I started with TNT in Aug of 2010, I never imagined that I would actually finish a marathon let alone be signing up for a third time! My finish times are nothing to brag about but I still get out there several times a weeks to put in miles and the only reason is because of the HOPE that it gives the people diagnoised with this terrible disease. I will keep running for all of them until there is a Cure.

Please won't you help me give all of those people the HOPE they need to beat cancer!

My Fundraising Page

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
