Welcome to my Team In Training home page. On April 22, 2012 I will be running in the Rock N Roll Madrid Marathon in memory of my wonderful father, Antonio Muino.

Four years ago I ran with Team In Training at The San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon, and it was an amazing experience. I first signed up to do it because it seemed like a fun way to train for a marathon, and hey...it was for a good cause, right? It was SO much more than that! I made some amazing friends along the way, but more importantly I was profoundly impacted by those that I met during that journey, those who personally battled this horrible disease known as leukemia, as well as their families. Some battles were won (thanks to new treatments and advances which cannot be done without funding), and unfortunately some battles were lost, and their loss was great and left a great void in the hearts of families and friends. I never, in a million years thought it would be something I would understand so personally...until 2 years ago. That's when my wonderful father was diagnosed with leukemia (AML), and the lives of his family and friends were changed forever.

Two weeks ago I made a decision to sign up for another run with TNT, in honor of my dad. I logged onto the TNT website and saw they were going to start training for a run in Madrid, Spain. Perfect! (Or as my dad would say, "Optimo!") My father was born in Spain, this was meant to be. I couldn't wait to get more information about the run and then tell my dad all about it, I knew he would love it! Unfortunately two days later I received the call I had been dreading since I first heard my dad utter the word "leukemia". My dad lived in Brazil and when I saw a call come in on September 19th from Brazil I refused to answer the phone. I stared at the screen and waited for the voice mail to come through, and after a few minutes I knew I couldn't ignore it anymore and within a few seconds my world was shattered, my dad had died, peacefully in his sleep, never knowing that he was no longer in remission.

So now, a run in honor of my father will be run in memory of him. The loss of my father is a great loss, not just for his family, but for his friends as well. He lived his life to the fullest. He was a man full of love and compassion and wisdom beyond measure. He looked for the positive in everything and everyone, had a wonderful sense of humor and he was a gentleman through and through. He taught me the importance of honesty, respect, to appreciate the beauty in life and to help those around us whenever we can, and I am so proud to be his daughter.

How serious is blood cancer? Every four minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies (someone's son, daughter, father, mother, brother, sister, someone's best friend, soul mate).

Please help my efforts to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, so they can continue their efforts to find cures for blood cancers like leukemia -- the No. 1 disease killer of children -- lymphoma and myeloma. Please make a donation so one day other families do not have to experience the void left in their hearts due to leukemia.
