Racing to Save Lives, One Mile at a Time!!!
Welcome to Alan's Team In Training home page.
I’m back with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training again to participate in my 2nd full marathon and to continue to raise funds to find a cure. I trained for and completed the 2009 WALT DISNEY WORLD Marathon and had a successful fund-raising campaign, but there is more to be done. (see http://pages.teamintraining.org/nfl/wdw09/aharmon) The fight against cancer goes on; it doesn't end just because I ran a marathon. So it’s time to run another one.
My personal health has been a main issue for me over the last few years. As a six-year survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, I know firsthand how tough the fight can be. I'm alive today because of the medical advances that have been made over the last 20 or so years, many of which were funded by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. But there is still much more that can be done.
If I can do something to help someone else win their fight and to do so while maintaining a quality of life above and beyond the harsh chemo and radiation treatments that I received, then I'm going to do all I can! These treatments saved my life but have also given me other issues to deal with. On June 17 2009 I had triple by-pass surgery and I am still recovering from that. I still plan on living a good long while, and while I do I will always try to make a difference. I am now a survivor of both cancer and heart disease so that makes me an experienced survivor to say the least.
I am looking forward to seeing a complete cure in my lifetime! I truly believe that is a possibility as long as we keep up the fight! And while on the road to that cure, I hope to see improved treatment regiments such as “targeted therapies” that will not cause other people the types of side effect that I continue to endure.
So that's why I’m training to participate in the 2011 Country Music Marathon in my home state of Tennessee. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I will complete this event not just for myself, but also in honor of ALL individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line … a cure!
We need people like you to help make a difference! Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. There are promising things on the horizon, so this is NOT the time to give up the fight!
As I train for and participate in this event, I will again be doing it in honor of others. I will be compiling "My Honoree List" as I did for Disney. Everyone's name will be on my site and on me during the Marathon.
Coming soon.......
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
