Hello, friends & family!
In 1998, our father, Jack Canny, was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Luckily, we got just months under 2 decades more with Dad before he passed this April 20th, 2017. He remained healthy & very active at Stage 0 until he died, but sadly, the fact about CLL is that once you're no longer healthy, the immature white blood cells can't help you get better. Back then, when we first learned he was Stage 0, we were so grateful, that my sister, Bridget, & I decided we wanted to walk the Dublin Full Marathon with Team In Training in his honor! And in true 'Jack' fashion, Dad researched the race course, enlisted our cousin, Noel, to join him & they met us at various check points along the course to give us bananas, trail mix, take unwanted jackets, and give us a big smile and a hug of encouragement & pride.
That race led to almost 9 years for the both of us doing races/hikes with TNT & I even mentored for many years. After a long break from TNT, we feel this is one very special way to not only honor Dad, but to reconnect with our gratitude for all the extra time we had with that special angel of a man.
Dad led his life by example. He was a champion of volunteerism and we have chosen to return to TNT to walk the Austin 1/2 Marathon this Feb. 18th, 2018, to honor his life of service and show our love & appreciation for all the extra time we had with him!
Wherever Dad is now, I'm sure he'd be pleased that we're not only embarking on another fun adventure together, but we'll be helping people in need at the same time...that's 'Jack's Way'...explore & serve!!
Team in Training raises funds to continue The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's funding of the breakthrough development of therapies that have already saved and continues to save thousands of lives. If you are able to donate any amount, we thank you! If you can't and just send us well wishes, good vibes or share our link to your FB friends, we also thank you!!!
Jack's Girls are taking on Austin, so watch out! We'z gonna soak up that great town, one step at a time!! Thank you all for your support! Be well & love each other well!!
Thank you, Jack's Girls...Andi & Bridget
Thank you!
