Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
As some of you may know, my very good friend Mark has recently had a relapse of his leukemia. He is in his second Chemo treatment in as many months. He will most likely need a bone marrow transplant to cure this disease. After registering as a bone marrow donor, I felt compelled to do something more. I had already been training to do some triathlons this summer and found out about this organization to help raise money that benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Along with my rigorous physical training, I will be taking on another challenge as well. I will be trying to raise at least $4000 in sponsorships so that I may race in Mark's honor at the Nations Triathlon in Washington D.C. on September 14. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the sport of triathlon, it is an endurance race that combines consecutive parts of swimming, biking, and running. My particular race will have a .93 mile swim, followed by a 24 mile bike, and finishing with a 6.2 mile run and I am hoping to finish this event in less than 3 hours.
I appreciate all of you for taking the time to come to this website and would be even more appreciative if you took a few more minutes to donate to this cause. If you feel compelled to make a difference, please forward this website to your friends and family and encourage them to do the same!
You can visit my web site often to check back and see my progress. Thanks for your support!

UPDATE 6/11/08: Mark is doing ok, although the steriods have him a little swollen but he is in good spirits! After running a 10k (6.2 miles) last night I have logged over 90 total miles in 12 days for swimming, biking, and running. It would have been over 120 miles had it not been for 4 blown tubes in two bike training sessions! Thanks Matt for the rescue!!!!! An 8 mile walk home in bike shoes would have been crappy!!
UPDATE 7/18/08:
Mark didn't take his last chemo treatment very well, but he is still in good spirits. We are hoping that he will be released from the hospital in a few weeks. As for me, after limited training due to stepping on a hot coal on the 4th of July. I am back full force, and training hard for the race. It's only 7 weeks away!!!
UPDATE 9/15/08:
We did it!!! Thank you everyone for your generous contributions in helping me raise money for the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. I finished the triathlon in 3 hours, 1 minute, and 21 seconds. My physical goal was not reached due to leg cramping, but oh well I finished!! Thank you all again!
