This was presented to TeamTom at the GW Parkway Classic Inspiration Dinner on April 23, 2016. We have raised $134,363.78 so far and are NOT finished!
Congratulations to all of my teammates.

What is Team Tom?
Team Tom grew from a request by my TNT Teammates in August of 2015 for me to be Honored Teammate for the Fall Season, shortly after they learned of my diagnosis of Stage IV pancreatic cancer. It began as a response by my Teammates from 11 years of TNT events, and has led to things like the sweatshirts my wife Naomi Morales and I are wearing in the photo above, courtesy of Katie Sleep. The purple and green ice pops on those shirts are a reference to my role as “King of the Ice Pops” during the 2011/2012 TNT cycle seasons. Sidelined from marathons by an injured knee, while Naomi was riding I was bringing homemade fresh fruit ice pops to the cycle team SAG stops and finish lines in cooler chilled with dry ice.
The good news is that thanks to a Johns Hopkins clinical trial my life has already lasted longer than the first projection. And my body is responding well enough that I am going to do the 5K element of the GW Parkway 10 Miler on April 24, 2016. Will not be nearly as fast as my last event racewalking that distance (44:47.6) but going to do it. Most of my reason for getting out there is to join my teammates, part is because it feels good to be moving. Bonus - the GW Parkway 10 miler is one of my favorite events.
First and foremost to fully LIVE my life for as long as possible.
After being told in June of 2015 that I had 4-6 months left if my pancreatic cancer was not treated, we carefully examined the alternatives. The result was my enrollment in the GTXCI clinical trial at Johns Hopkins, and the results of the chemotherapy have been outstanding. The tumors are shrinking and the side effects have been limited enough for me to be able to say my quality of life is good.
The main side effect is my lack of energy and stamina have sidelined me from the marathons and other physical activities which have been such an integral part of my life since 2005. So my distances will seem very short and times very slow, but at this point simply being in motion is an accomplishment and the speed/distance may or may not return but is less important.
So consider me a cheerleader and supporter whose experience is available to all. Simply ask whenever you think it might be useful.
WELCOME TO Walking Tom's TEAM IN TRAINING (TNT) HOME PAGE.
Been raising money to fight cancer for many years, since 2005 with TNT have raised over $50,000 to help fight blood cancers. Naomi has raised even more.
Now we are facing a different and more personal crisis. I am a pancreatic cancer patient, (Stage 4) presently participating in a clinical trial at Johns Hopkins. Initial prognosis is 12 months, could be longer if the chemotherapy works. It already has reduced my pain, which they tell me means the tumor has shrunk.
What does this have to do with TNT?
After this many years and literally thousands of miles, I am asking my friends to make a contribution on my behalf because I know how many lives TNT has saved. Instead of spending money on flowers or cards, use it to fight cancer! I will know you have donated and you can be sure the money is going to a good cause.
Why not a pancreatic cancer charity? If that is your preference, please select one. My choice is TNT because I know how they use the money. Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immunotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. You may not know it, but every single donation helps save a life with breakthrough therapies such as these.
Patients need these cures and they need your support. Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help get us all closer to a world without cancer.
Thank you!
