11/10/08 Update: Race Venue Change
I decided to change races, so now I will be running the Disney half-marathon in Orlando, Florida on January 10. The dates of the Arizona race were going to be a potential conflict with work events, so Disney World...here I come! On a side note, you may notice that my "funds raised" total is 0...I assure you this is just a technical difficulty. At this point I have raised $1400. Now time to do some events-details to follow!

10/24/08 Update: The trails are getting longer, but my legs are even stronger. I think. We are now up to 8 miles in our training, and honestly it is going much better than I anticipated. The hardest part for me has been to keep up with the weekday short-run and workout schedule. But I'm almost half-way to race day!
The fundraising has also been going well. Thank you to everyone who has contributed thus far, I definitely appreciate your support. This Sunday, October 26, I will be selling my homemade caramel apples at the Columbia Pike Farmers Market to raise more money for LLS. If you are in the area please stop by anytime from 9am-1pm, I promise you won't be disappointed! Visit my blog for directions and more details about my latest fundraising venture.
Goodbye for now!

October 2008:
What am I doing here so early?
Why am I wearing shorts with a two-inch inseam?
Are we there yet?
These are the things that I think every time I run. I didn’t say run long distances—I said run. As in, it’s hard for me to run to catch the Metro. So what could possibly motivate me to train to run thirteen miles? I’ll tell you what:
It’s cancer. Or, more precisely, a nationwide movement to find a cure for cancer… Let me elaborate.
I am currently training for the P.F. Chang's Half-Marathon with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team in Training (also known as “TNT”...hey those are my initials, too!). The LLS has trained more that 360,000 athletes to participate in endurance events, raising more than $850 Million to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma along the way. I am hoping to contribute to this important cause through a commitment to run thirteen miles and raise $3,800 for cancer research.
I am on track to run (and actually finish) the race in Phoenix, AZ on January 18, 2009. While I would love your cheering support on the day of the race, I think I would be too embarrassed for anyone I know to see me run. (Matt has informed me that I run “like a pigeon-toed girl.” Which I guess I do. Thanks, honey.) You can help, however, with a donation in support of my fundraising goal.
Donations to the LLS can be made using the secure online donation tool available on my fundraising website: http://pages.teamintraining.org/nca/pfchangs09/tthue. Donations are tax-deductible and will be going to two great causes: finding a cure for blood cancers and helping me cure my fear of running in public. I will be tracking my journey on my blog, T Squared, (which I am sure you all read often): http://tarathue.blogspot.com. So visit frequently for updates.
Thank you in advance for all of your love and support, and for making the dream of a cure for cancer a reality.
With Love,
Tara Nicole Thue
