11.22.2009 UPDATE

WE WON THE CHALLENGE, 13 TEAM MEMBERS AND 7 COACHES AND CAPTAINS CROSSED THE FINISH LINE TODAY. WE RODE 109 MILES FOR THE LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA SOCIETY. WE RAISED $123,000 IN THE WASHINGTON CHAPTER AND $1.2 MILLION ACROSS THE NATION WITH OVER 300 RIDERS IN THE EL TOUR DE TUCSON. OUR RIDERS AND SUPPORTERS WERE VERY PREVALENT ACROSS THE ENTIRE CITY OF TUCSON, WITH A HEAVY POLICE PRESENCE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ALL 8000 RIDERS.

RUTH MURPHY, MY CLOSE FRIEND AND TEAM MEMBER ARRIVED AT THE FINISH LINE AT 6PM JUST AS THE COURSE WAS CLOSED AND WAS THE LAST OF THE 109 MILERS TO COMPLETE THE COURSE IN 11 HOURS. SHE IS MY HERO FOR WORKING SO LONG AND HARD AND COMPLETING THE COURSE!!! EVERYONE WAS SO PROUD OF HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

AND I HAVE TO THANK EACH AND EVERY MEMBER OF MY TEAM OF CONTRIBUTORS WHO HELPED MOTIVATE ME AND GOT ME ACROSS THE FINISH LINE. EACH OF YOU ARE THE TRUE MENTORS AND CAPTAINS OF OUR TEAM, AND WE ARE TRULY GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND HELP TO THOSE OF US WHO RIDE FOR YOU AND FOR THE TEAM IN TRAINING GROUP. WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT LLS WILL HELP SUPPORT AND FIND A CURE FOR CANCER IN OUR LIFETIME.

I AM ESPECIALLY THANKFUL THAT I WAS ABLE TO RIDE IN HONOR OF MY MOTHER FOR THIS EVENT. SHE IS A STRONG EXAMPLE OF THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING AND IS MY ULTIMATE HERO FOR THIS EVENT. ALL MY LOVE TO MOM.

Well the fall is upon us and I have been riding my bike again this summer…and ...YES I am riding in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!!!!

This year I am training for the Tucson Arizona 111 miles on November 21, 2009. It’s really 109 miles, but we ride to the start and then back to the hotel for a total of 111 miles.

This will be the Eleventh Century Bike Ride I hope to complete. More noteworthy is that with the help and generosity of my friends and family, we have raised over $25,000 to aid the cause to fight blood cancers.

This time, I am working harder than ever, in honor of my Mother, Lois Abod. She is my inspiration and strength for this ride. She has raised 7 children, and has 15 grandchildren!!

I have been touched by many of you who have shown your amazing generosity, in honor of a loved one, or friend who has been affected by blood cancers.

I am also riding for Tim and Cathy Myers good friend Tom Singel

Our new goal is to raise over $5,000 more to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If you are able to help me in this goal, you can do so by going to this link for the webpage set up by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
