Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Leukemia stinks. There is nothing good about it. While my son, Spencer, bravely fought this terrible disease in the first half of 2012, I felt helpless. I wanted to take his pain away. I wanted to see him playing lacrosse again. I wanted to see him doing the things a Junior in High School does, the things all his friends were doing. Well, we are now a full year removed from Spencer's treatments, and all thanks to our loving Heavenly Father, Spencer remains in remission. We pray it stays that way!
With Spencer returning to his pre-cancer health, I feel a burning compulsion to do something about cancer. Something big. I am not a doctor. If I were, I would devote my time to researching and promoting a cure for this nasty disease. I can, however, do all I can to support those who are fighting to find a cure. So much progress has been made. If Spencer's leukemia came 20 years ago, his result would have almost certainly been very different than it has been. We have come so far to give hope to those who suffer from this disease. We have so far yet to go to eradicate this disease with a cure.
In the past year and half, nearly every person reading this has served Spencer and my family. So many came to us through our trial and asked "what can we do to help?" Through your prayers, your kind words of support, your countless acts of service, we have stayed afloat through this trial. Our gratitude for you is endless and WE THANK YOU!!!! We could not have made it through this without your love and support.
I have decided to embark on my own mission to "help". I am hoping you all will join me in my effort. I am an endurance athlete. I love challenging myself. While I was in the hospital with Spencer, I was unable to carry on this passion in order to help my family through the struggles we have faced. I have now gotten back into my passion for endurance training. In honor of my son, Spencer, I ran the Rock 'n Roll marathon in Washington DC in March. On June 1, I will ride the Montauk 108 mile bike ride in New York. I ran and I will bike for Spencer. I ran and I will bike to raise funds to fight the nasty disease that embattled my son. I ask my great network of friends and family to join me in this effort. So many of you have already contribute to this great cause and I have raised over $10,000 for the battle against Leukemia!!! That is a significant chunk - in my mind worthy of doing something "big" to fight this terrible disease. Deepest thanks for those who have donated to my effort and to thouse that are considering donating. Any amount helps! Words can not express my gratitude to those who have already joined me in this effort to fight back through your donations. It means the world to me and my family and will go a long way to making a difference!
Thank you again for all you have done for my family and for Spencer! And thank you for supporting my new life's ambition to do all in my power to help further the tremendous advances that have been made to fight and conquer leukemia!
GO TEAM!!!
Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
