Running 13.1 Miles to Help Save Lives!

As most of you know, John and I are in the process of adopting our first child. Recently, we found out we would be waiting much longer than initially anticipated to bring our child home. After getting over the initial disappointment, I decided that this "waiting time" did not have to be "wasted time." I made up my mind to use this time to accomplish a long time goal of mine to complete a half marathon (and hopefully a full marathon in the future!). I knew right away that I wanted to accomplish this goal through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training for two reasons. First I wanted the support of TNT's established training program. Second, and most importantly, I wanted to train and race in honor of my sister Debbie who was diagnosed with Hodkin's Lymphoma in 2008. After enduring several cycles of chemotherapy and radiation, she is now cancer-free (she'll reach 2 years in October!). Here she is with our niece Kayla:

I am training to run the Virginia Beach Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon on September 5th.

All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. An estimated 912,938 people in the United States are living with, or are in remission from, leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma. Every four minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a CURE!
