Racing to Save Lives
We Finished the Nike Marathon! My time was not as fast as I'd hoped, but Naomi set a new personal record in her Half Marathon, and we both feel good about what we have done. This 10/18/09 race was my fifth and last Nike Full Marathon - I'll be 65 on 2/13/2010, and will stick with Half Marathons in the future.
You can expect me to be raising money for LLS again next year, just doing a shorter race. This year the TNT participants at the Nike event raised over $14 million, helping push the total raised by TNT for LLS in the past 21 years to over $1 Billion.
Bob Raleigh is doing well in terms of his leukemia treatments, but had a setback a few days ago when he slipped and broke his ankle. So he's back at Siteman and headed for the Rehab center to work on regaining full mobility.
Bob is what we call an "Honored Teammate" - the ones who are fighting the blood cancers in person. Ohers involved with TNT are people like me who get out and do these endurance events because they are "fun". (It's now the third day after the event, so it sort of seems like fun again.)
Your contribution to this LLS fundraising is the best possible way to help support treatment for Bob and all the others who are fighting blood cancers. We don't have a cure yet, but the survival rates are improving every year, thanks in large part to the money donated by friends of TNT.
Please - you can still make a donation! By supporting my participation in Team In Training you both help Bob Raleigh and advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check my racewalking blog frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
