LAUREN'S HALF MARATHON IS ON SUNDAY!
A so many of you already know, I am training to participate in the Nike Women's Half Marathon to benefit as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. The race will take place in San Francisco on October 18th to benefit The Leukemia Lymphoma Society and I am proud to be a member of the Maryland Team!
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of my dear friend Amanda (Amanda and her Mom above) along with all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Amanda was diagnosed with CD 20 Positive Hodgkins Lympoma in late April and she has SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED her chemotherapy treatment!!! I had my event kickoff Tuesday night (10/6) and I got to brag that Amanda had finished her last chemo treatment earlier that day. The light at the end of the tunnel is here and we are in the home streach together.
My last training run this weekend was great! In the 6 mile course we hit high humidity (hard to breath) wind gusts going against us, and rain..but we finished strong and celebrated the end of our training season.
I have had such a wonderful experience training for this race and I can't wait to cross the finish line with a smile on my face and Amanda in my heart. Her strength, determination, and friendship continue to inspire me every day. Thinking about her and our times together over the past 6 (almost 7) years have gotten me through many 10, 12, and even 13 mile training runs. Her encouragement has been unending and I know we continue to inspire each other.
Due to Amanda's hard work I have been named the 3rd highest fundraiser for the National Capital Area (MD, DC, and VA teams) in my event! I will be honored for my fundraising efforts next weekend at the event and I can't wait to give Amanda the credit!
As I count down the days to the race, I cannot thank my supporters, friends, coaches, and mentors enough. Thank you for the donations, words of encouragement, for the bags of ice for my training recovery, for cheering on the sidelines, for making me wake up at 5:45 am on Saturday morning, and most of all for believing in me.
I have surpassed my $9,000 goal I am so thankful for all the support I have received so far. Thank you cousin Shel for making such an extremely generous donation!!! The generosity has been truly amazing over the past five months.
Thank you so much for your support and a very special thank you to Amanda and Jaime (above) who have become my biggest cheerleaders. This has truly become a team sport!
TEAM AMANDA is for positive thinkers!!! We are so close to the finish line and we will do it together!
