First weekend with TNT
May 31, 2011 by Alan Chung

This past weekend was my first weekend actually being a part of TNT.

I've mooched off of TNT for the past few years as I went for my century bike rides, always stopping at their stations to refill my water bottle and maybe snatch some goo. This is my first year actually doing an event through TNT and its been a great experience so far.

As we went through my first group run, one of the members of the DC area TNT group that was training with us shared their story about how they have been impacted by leukemia and how it came completely out of the blue. As I thought about the experience that many of the TNT trainers, participants, and other affiliated people have, I realised that my experience with it is really only from that of a health care practitioner which gives me a distinctly different, and somewhat removed experience compared to others.

Their stories all have a similar thread though, leukemia and lymphoma can come out of nowhere. The $5000 goal looks like a lot, but its only a drop in the bucket compaired to the amount needed for research and education.

Please donate if you are able or consider helping out in some other way. One of my friends has actually said that although they were unable to donate monitarily, they said that my letter to them helped them to decide to become a bone marrow donor. How cool is that?! You don't have to be that cool, money is ok too.

I love canned text that actually has content so I'm going to let everybody read the text that came with this fundraising website if you want...it'll be at the bottom of the page, but first a message from me.

Some of you may be wondering what on God's name inspired me to do a triathlon. In all honesty, it was boredom. I did my first mini triathlon last year on a weekend where I had nothing else going on. A friend and I just decided to do it since we were bored, after that we were hooked.

This year I decided that I wanted to do my second triathlon through Team in Training, not because I couldn't get a spot in the tri without them, but because TNT is a great organisation raising moneys for a good cause.

Of the money that you send, over 75% of the money goes directly into programs to help support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) including: Research, Patient and Community services, Public and Professional Education. Come back and visit this site if you want to follow my progress.

Please forward this site to anybody you think might be interested.

Thanks and God Bless,

Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to <strike>see my progress</strike> give me more money. Thanks for your support!

I know it looks like a lot of money, its definitely not an insignificant amount, but the moneys go to a good cause. I could have done this even on my own and probably spent significantly less than the fundraising minimim, but doing the event is really only part of the adventure.
